Rekord-E1 CarAVan / 2 + 4 Door Sedan
Hello, while looking on the internet, I encountered on this site.

First on the info, I live in Germany and my English is not the best.

I ride and own a Opel Rekord-E1 Caravan, the European sister model
Opel Commodore.

It is Built in April 1980 and is currently under construction.

Dates:

Engine - 1.9 L with twin Solex carburetors and sport camshaft

Gearbox - Automatic TH180

Suspension - front 80mm deep with Koni, Rear Limo shorter springs,
BMW E30 Shock Absorbers

Differential - 3.45 with a 230mm drum brake

Brakes Front - 296mm from the Opel Senator B 3.0 24V

Inside - Recaroseats Opel Monza

I rebuilt the steering on Saab to install a Chevy V8.

Since you have the Commodores with V8 was, I need some infos
and pictures as their conversion to the Chevrolet Small Block performs.

So now it goes on.

've Been looking for useful spare parts.

First I converted the steering to rack and pinion steering,
then matching adapter for the engine built.

Then, a good engine purchased.

it is a 5.0 305.

Engine disassembled, cleaned and measured.

A friend is building me the exhaust in stainless steel, 2 mufflers are finished.

1268219112.JPEG

1268219113.JPEG

Thus, the engine is almost finished and lacquered.

So the engine is now at home.

Transmission and drive shaft fit, steering also has space.

Oil pan really well-fitting.
Now be cleaned and reconditioned cylinder heads, and soon built.

Some parts are already ordered and are expected joyfully.

hey mate.. from germany!?! ahhh... well, very nice wagon you have there.. she looks very nice indeed. if you drove that car over here with the left hand drive etc... everyone would be snapping their necks in confusion, as you drove past. i have a 1983 VH sl commodore sedan which looks very similar to your wagon. can you remove the opel badge from the grill? you can remove the holden badges over here. i think it cleans up the car alot. especially if you paint the grill gloss black, anyway.. good on ya for signing up on this website. take it easy

Love the wagon, especially the bonnet, is it custom?
What colour did you paint it?

Usually we use the Holden V8, it is standard fitment here so everything is either off the shelf or in the junk yard.
Most conversion parts can be had from speed shops, parts such as extractors (hard to get a good working set tho) engine mounts and sump are the main parts needed.

Did you beef up the chassis because Holdens spent along time testing and re engineering the opel.

Yeah first thing I noticed too was the bonnet/hood, looks pretty tough.

It would probably cost a lot to get parts shipped from Aus to Germany but some nice headlights and a grill will make it look beefy

Just noticed your bonnet is flat across the front though, probably would have a gap between the grill if you tried to use a commodore one.

The hood is original from Opel.
It was used only for the diesel models.

When the engine is ready, the car gets a strut tower bar and other reinforcements.

Where's the VB Commodore strengthened?
Does it need any special documents or photos?

In Germany there was the same spotlight.

Awesome to see this car in it's original form, in it's original country. :D
The Rekord E, along with the front section from the Opel Senator A, is what our first Commodore, the VB, was basically based on.
This makes for an interesting perspective on our favourite car's history. :)
Here in Aus, the 1.9l 4cyl was known as the 'Starfire Four' (or it's nickname: 'Misfire 4', because of it's bad reputation), and was released in the next models, the VC & VH Commodore.
Although I'm not sure if we can legally convert a 4cyl released version to a larger engine here?
I'l have to research that..

Sorry I can't give you an insite to the mods but I would assume the suspension, location points and cross member were either reinforced or replaced.
