My comment relating to distortion of the skin was this line.

I've worked out a way I can run a support across the car and wedge the ribs firmly up against the roof while the sealant cures.

Once you remove the support it may distort

Fair enough. I didn't mean to dis your comment. I won't try to force it too hard. I really just need to hold it up in place while the sealant cures. To be honest I think the roof line is less than perfect and I suspect the roof may have been popped at some point and that's why the original sealant has let go. As a result the ribs are somewhat distorted and need to be pushed up to the roof while the new sealant cures. If I ever have paint with a gloss finish on the roof it may highlight some imperfections. Mine's never going to be show car but it'd be nice for it to look a little tidier than it does right now.

I doubt it would. Hence why I posted the photo of my VZ with factory adhesive between the cross beam and roof sheet metal.
