This sounds a familiar story.

I too have a collection of parts.

I know it sounds like you’ve already committed to using a wagon fuel door but have you considered using a GTO fuel door setup? I’ve converted my car to an electric release. I got a LH drive electric fuel door catch and a black switch from either a Daewoo Statesman or Buick Park Avenue. Hardest part was heating up and moulding the seat cover to hide where the old cable handle was but you wouldn’t have that problem.
First photo is my VY Calais with the above mentioned switch but an easier alternative again would be to use a GTO cluster surround too. Shown in second pic
Got a photo of how it fits up to the top of the dash where the compartment is on the dash. Or did you fit a WK dash?

Nah. Original dash. That’s where the plastic welding comes in, I used half commodore and half caprice facia and welded together. Filled the sides in by welding plastic from the other sections on it. Obviously needs to be the same plastic to make it weld properly, it’s PC ABS which is annoying to weld but I didn’t use any filler at all. I’ll see what photos I can dig up on my phone cause the car is at my work

Ok after spending a while going thru what’s on my phone I found these.
Pretty self explanatory, started as VY Calais and WK facias, fitted WK to car, cut off upper section of VY, trial fitted to my dash. Welded together roughly in car.

Because the WK facia sits slightly more vertical, I had to fill a few mm on either side of the new facia with plastic, easy enough to do and looks factory

I’ll whip my car apart when I get a spare day at work and I’ll create an in depth walkthru for you and who ever is interested. I think it was a great upgrade and everything works as expected. My whole interior is now black and also looks factory. I just wish I was clever enough to hack the lcd screen to display PIDS, having **** like oil pressure, AFR, fuel trim data, O2 volts would be amazing

I used the original top so I didn’t need to change the whole dash. Eventually I’ll put a screen or gauges above it. With a little an actuator or something, so at the flick of a switch I can show or hide it. I’ll use the hinge from the VZ calais compartment
