When I accelerate at a certain point of pressure on the pedal, there is a slight whistling noise, as if either something is rubbing or something is leaking...very hard noise to explain...

however, the whistling noise only occurs from about 20% to 60% depression of the pedal. like so...

If the noise is coming from the pedal, some lubrication should fix it.

Check the path of the accelerator cable - it may be rubbing somewhere in the engine bay. Also check that it's not vacuum related by operating the heater control dial after car has been parked for an hour or two - switching dial from hot to cold you should hear a hiss as the remaining vacuum operates the heater switch etc (engine off) If no hiss then it could indicate you have a vacuum hose loose.
Good Luck.
