playing with shutter speed is fun
if you put the camera on a tripod, set the shutter speed so a really slow one, turn of all the lights, stand in front of it with a torch or something and start waving it around you can "draw with llight"
it's pretty cool.

Something like this:

This 2nd picture is my "accidental cool" picture as it was just buggering about not expecting anything good but I think the reflection and lighting worked quite well.

Make sure you get one that has a good height range. The on I have goes quite low but at it's tallest only reaches about my my bellybutton. Surprisingly annoying.

Doesn't sound surprising to me :p I have a cheap Velbon one that's ~140cm tall by legs only, then ~180cm tall if you extend the centre column. Makes it much less stable though. Even that range can be a little limited sometimes. I have my dad's old Velbon too, at it's tallest with the column extended it's ~2.5m tall, and sturdier/more stable than my cheap one is with the column down. On the downside, it weighs like 5kg as opposed to the 1kg my cheap one weighs.

This wasnt so much accidental, was more a trial. Long exposure of the Yarra mixed with slight zooming while exposing.
