Hi, I've just joined up here and hope someone can help.

I accidently put my VY Calais key in my VT Commodore ignition and now the key won't turn when I try to start it.

I can unlock and lock the doors but the key just won't turn.

Have tried disconnecting the battery (the negative terminal) for a couple of hours but key still won't turn.

Any suggestions before I call my local Holden dealer and have to sell a kidney ?????

give the steering wheel a wiggle while you turn the key?

LOL, first thought I had too.

Yep tried wiggling the steering wheel but then the steering wheel 'locked'' and can't really wiggle it at all now.

Some mates think its just the ignition barrel. Probably going to have to get the Holden dealer or at least a mechanic to fix the problem

You're better off with a mobile locksmith rather than a mechanic. It is going to be difficult to change the barrel if the key won't turn. Try spraying some WD40 into the barrel, you have nothing to lose.

Soon to get WL
Also wiggle the key around as you try to turn the key

Try putting the key in the ignition and pull it back out while applying backwards force on the key (ie the opposite direction to starting the car).
Dont have to use your muscles on it but be firm.

Sometimes I notice that if you take the key out of the ignition you dont get that 'clunk' that locks the steering wheel in place, then the next time I put they key in the ignition it wont turn until I have done the above to make that clunk sound.
