Hi all,

Like most VN's my auto is now so bad that I have to get a good book to read while waiting for it to engage in reverse when cold.
I went and bought some nulon auto fluid additive that claims to fix/help worn seals (a known culprit in the slow gear selection). My question is that as I already have a box filled to the propper mark with transmission fluid and changing it is a pig of a job, can I just empty the extra 300ml of this additive in the top without fear of it doing more harm than good?

Cheers

Mike

it might be best to take it to an auto specialists to get a service on the trans. how long since the trans has had a service? cause it could be changing slowly due to the filter being block and its doing its best to run without destroying itself. if that makes sense

I agree. Either take it to a tranny specialist and have a full service performed with a flush through. Can do it yourself if you have a mechanical aptitude, a gregory's and you are patient and clean.

Remember a good fluid doesnt need any additives.

The additive is to repair the seals.... which "good fluid" cant fix!

Yes it might be the filter causing the flow issues but im gonna throw in that it just might be your reverse solinode. Check that one out first.

As for adding in the treatment fluid, IF its already full...the auto sump that is, then adding excess fluid may not be such a good idea. What i'd do, drop the auto pan, replace the fluid + filter and add the treatment. Kill a couple of birds in one go.

Hope that helped.

aZk.

cheers all, I have just changed my fluid about 6 months ago, (tranny wasn't all the great before so it is not my fault) The pennies are a bit tight at the moment, but I'll sling it by a workshop.

How much would you be looking at for a tranny service (4 spd)?

Michael,

Just my experience but I was having trouble with the auto in my V8 VP after 220000 Km and I looked into using the additives in the fluid. I was told they would either fix it or f**k it, and unfortunately in my case it f**ked it. Not long after adding the additives the overrun clutch failed and I lost engine braking. A few months later 4th then 3rd stopped working. As I result I needed a new transmission. Got quoted $2500 for a full rebuild.

On the upside I bought a second T700 as well as some good books and rebuilt my first automatic transmission. It's been in the car now for a few months and is running absolutely magnificently.

CATCH! :D

Service was around $100 for my trans..... I had similar story to one above, but I only had the car a week, & Im a little rough ;) Anyhoo, I lost 4th & 3rd also, got quoted $1000 for rebuild.

I ended up buying another trans & having them service, shift kit & install it. Cost $765 all up :p

I was thinking of getting a service, and buying the corvette servo and B & M stage 2 shift kit and getting them to install it. Do you notice a big difference after an auto service? I was hoping to get rid of the clunky downshifting.
