Hi Guys, I recently put together a fairly staunch 355 with vortech T-Trim combo, Originally it was to go into my ute but plans have changed and recently acquired a nice VL turbo Calais mock up. These cars have always been a favourite and this thing is flawlessly straight and pristine paint so theres half my work done outside bar the walkie kit I'm hoping to whack on.

Question is what is required to do this conversion exactly? (fitting wise) and what would be the best transmission to bolt up behind it, T350 Im leaning towards?

any help appreciated :)

The things you will need to put an injected 5 litre into a VL are:

- EFI 5.0 + TH700 auto
- ECU
- K Frame (VL or VN V8 - VN V8 one is cheaper)
- 1inch Master cylinder
- Headers
- Exhaust (exhaust shop)
- Engine Loom (VN V8)
- Radiator (VL V8)
- Cold air intake (optional)
- Tail shaft (Custom or use a V8 TH700 front tail shaft and a VL rear tailshaft - can anyone confirm this?)
- VN V8 accelerator cable (you may need to cut it to fit)
- you may also need to swap the body loom as some v6 ones arnt the same

Thanks Jecs, the build so far is based around one of Pavteks strokers.

- Come Racing crank
- Scat H beam rods
- J E Forged Pistons
- Pavtek Race Port Heads
- Cometic gaskets
- Crane 286 cam
- Chev chilled iron based lifters
- Pavtek main stud girdle
- ASR race sump to suit girdle
- Crow hardened pushrods
- crane roller rockers
- Double row timing chain
- Complete exhaust, extractors, high flow cats etc
- Complete MSD ignition system
- Vortech T-Trim centrifugal supercharger with upgraded race spec bearings setup for 12 psi with custom drive pulley. Capable of making 28psi.
- Intercooler
- Haltech Platinum ECU
- Aeroflow billet fuel rails
- Rising rate regulator
- Injector Dynamic injectors
- 4 barrel throttle body
- Harrop high rise manifold

and for the cooling side of things Ive a nice big shiney PWR radiator sitting there with a custom polished alloy shroud mounting 2 x 12 inch thermos to the back of it :)

So far it owes me 17500 without paying for labor costs thanks to several good mates that have that covered. Now its just a case off making it all fit in and selecting a transmission and diff suitable. Most people so far have suggested the T350 over the T700 so Im curious why you suggest otherwise? Im also planning to spec up the brakes, fronts atleast prior to putting it back in the road so can you suggest any good upgrades? Thanks mate :)

piss the T700 off mate and stick with a TH350 or 400....or even a glide! The 700's are pretty pus compared to the 350-400's. sure they dont have the overdrive...but who cares!....unless u want it. Go to any drag car running a holden v8 and they will be running one of the above three boxes

you want a VN-VQ ecu and loom as they never had the electronic Auto Transmissions(T700).
You dont want an Auto ecu and a Auto loom.

You can go the VT upgraded front end brake kits with the twin piston calipers.
Ive gone the VT booster and master cylinder upgrade with new factory sized slotted rotors and it pulls up on a dime.
Tailshaft> keep what you have and get the front half sized to suit...prevailing it needs to be shortened...if it need to be lengthend youll have to source one that fits.

couldnt you have found a better cam??....and one to suit a charger?? theres a hell of alot of cams out there that piss on a 286..everyone jumps for the 286
