Hey I have a 2003 vy. is was recently in an accident and has some front end damage it needs the radiator support and other things replaced just wondering how much work is involved in doing so?
My phone is temperamental. I think im just going to to ahead with doing it. Will just be a learning curb. Pictures dont really do it justus anyway.
Good on you for having a go mate. Just FYI, it is learning curve, not taking the piss, life is all about learning.
Buy front cut from wreckers, remove panels needed from front cut. Remove parts from car that need replacing, weld it back on. As simple as it sounds, hope you have a mig welder and know how to use it.
Yeah. A learning curb for sure. Ended picking up a vz wagon with a blown motor for parts. Last 4 days iv been working on the cars. Removed bonnet, gaurds ect off both cars. Both top radiator supports are of. Today I started straitening the rail was pushed back. Once iv finshed that just have prep for the new support to go on bolt it on. Then test fit everything to make sure it all lines up right. Weld it in place. Hardest thing so far was finding some spotweld drill bits. I would have uploaded some progress pics ect but my phone just wont have it. When im finished the car and work out how to upload some pics il be sure to do so. If anyone would be intereated in looking
Yes would be good to share. When I work it out il put some pics of progress. Today put the support in place ( still not welded ) just to trial fit all penals and see of it all lines up. It seems to be alright sits abit lower on the driver side where the impact was. Either the rails pushed down or the skirting is damaged but its nothing to bad. See ifI can fix it up tomorrow amd maybe have it welded in.
This is the type i use, found drilling a small pilot hole first works best. HSS 3 8'' 10mm Spot Weld Welder Drill Cutter Free Postage | eBay You can regrind a 10mm drill bit similar to a brad point but angle the outer cutting edge more so it only cuts into the top layers but really isn't as easy as the saw type. Double/triple check around the top of the tower if the rail has been bent, it is a weak point (crumple zone).
