Welcome to Just Commodores, a site specifically designed for all people who share the same passion as yourself.
Well an interesting day today. The good wife had an appointment in Dubbo so she drove the 300km's down and dropped the car off again at Holden. I rang the service department and told them she was coming and that it was still rattling, they wern't to happy i gotta say but anyway, long story short i got a call from Holden Assist and they were very helpful and also gave us a rental car so the boss could get home. So once again the car is in the shop, not sure for how long. I'll call the service guy tomorrow and ask him what part number lifter was fitted. He did state that they are using the Holden packaged oil in the car already so my assumption that they are using Castrol was wrong.
Also, a mate found this on ebay, maybe i should just get this kit and fit it up?

Its strange how you don't hear of to many LS2 or LS3 VE HSV owners complaining of this issue! well atleast I haven't heard of them... I know they are a different configuration, cam block, heads etc etc, but its still an all alloy push rod engine... You'd think they should be noisy to if its a normal characteristic....
Very few LS derivatives had lifter noise except the DOD variants. Sure some early LS's had piston slap only noisy lifters as they got tired. Haven't heard any stories of these problems with LS2, 3 or 7 atm
Cheers

i've had 5 LS engines in different models over the years, everyone of them rattled and to date i've yet to hear one that doe'snt.the gen 4 engine has the LS2 bottom end,the heads and manifold are slightly different thats it.the LS3 has the LS7 lifters which are also shithouse. no gm lifter has been any good the only fix is aftermarket.go to LS1.com if you want proof.some LS3's have chewed up cams requiring a warranty job. the above kit from the u.s is missing some parts namely the L98 valley plate which isn't excactly cheap for what it is.does the cam in this kit require a stally?sure its cheap to get from the states a.t.m but once these additional parts are added + labour to fit is it worth it?postage can hurt too. my choice of lifter would be tie bars, morel or PAC to name a few.gm motorsport here in oz sells a complete dod delete kit for not much more than the yanks and you get everything
