So I start looking at front timing covers for the LS1. I saw the one @07GTS has used. I like it.

These two piece covers look nice. Proflow and Aeroflow.

Of note, with the Proflow one, it says some clearancing is needed on the stock LS1 water pump. Anyone know what is involved with that? Done it? Seen it done? Know someone who is related to someone who heard of someone doing it?

Or would an L98 water pump with spacers work better?

Of the two covers, which is better? Are they comparable?

not sure on the clearance issues with stock water pump, i also have the proflow water pump as its better for high rpm and on that one i had to swap the bolts on the rear to button head allen key so they dont contact the cover but it also has removable rear cover where the stock water pump i think is pressed in,

the proflow cover looks ok and with the seal all round may seal better over time, mine which is the aeroflow one the cover itself splits in two so u have to seal the center with gasket goo, if ur not LS1 u will need the cam sensor position in the cover not sure if the proflow has that as option if needed

I’ll have a look at the water pump I have spare.

What’s the benefit of the access cover?

So you can **** around with the cam without needing to pull the balancer off. Good for those playing with cam timing trying to find those last few HP playing on a dyno.
