Im looking for opinions on aftermarket heads to suit an LS1.
What have you used, and what are your thoughts?

The E.T performance heads are the pick of the bunch apparently, but have a hefty price tag to match. a 23x/24x cammed car that I tune will be getting a set of the trickflow 215cc heads fitted shortly. This made 280rwkw cam only & should make another 20rwkw or so with the heads, injectors & fuel system upgrade.

Mast Motosport heads are nice , Performance Inductions (The guy who designed ET heads) , AFR and Trickflow. You will need to pay $3000 plus to get any of these heads.
What are you plans and combo.

Don't really have any plans at the moment.
Want a bigger cam, and have read that Heads/cam are a good idea. Economy isn't really an issue, the car will only be driven weekends and if it really has to be. So a nice angry idle would be great.

Speedinc.com do a Head and cam package for $1800. My choice of cam and their heads.

I've no idea on the quality of their heads, they sell all the other brands on their site though.
There are a few bits i don't quite understand though. I'll go grab a couple of books of the shelf in a minute, but in case they don't answer it.

Can anyone tell me what the CC rating of the heads effects?
I know its the physical size of the combustion chamber. But how does a larger volume effect the performace, I realise everything is give and take, so how will a larger volume effect the driveability and so on?

CC will have the effect on compression ratio ie more comp = more power. When you start thinking this talk to a engine builder as they will know a good comb that wil work. Re ls1 heads a ported set of 241(standard heads) milled 30thou is a good upgrade re $$$$$ as your in vic talk to higgins.

They will have a couple of CC ratings. One will be the combustion chamber area which will affect dynamic & static compression ratios. (Dynamic is also affected by valve events, ie larger cam will reduce dynamic compression)
The other will be the size of the intake port. This is where the flow rates of the head & airspeed into the cylinder is governed, as well as the intake to exhaust ratio. The math behind this is beyond me, but the 230/240 cammed car I will be tuning once the heads are fitted had 215cc intake port heads(plus fast manifold) specced by John at SQP. Arguably one of the best ls engine builders in the country.

Thanks, I might keep an eye out for some second hand heads on ebay then.

Also, can anyone tell me if LS2 heads (243?) will fit an LS1 block?
