A lot of places don't like doing AC even if they have the gear. Older systems are especially renowned for having problems and it can become a real headache for a business to sort the issues, along with the unhappy customers who blame the workshop for not finding the needle in the haystack. No real money in AC apparently because customers want money back or free repairs when the gas leaks out a year later. $140 for a regas inc filter/dryer is not businesses make big money and rorting customers, just saying.

Fair Call, I can under stand that $140 isn't much,
however, its all done by machine now, with next to nothing labour content,
that is connect the hoses, de-gas it is done automatically with a press of a button,
And very similar with re-gassing.

Again, no disrespect to the honest A/C Techs, as I met a fair few over the years,
Especially the ones I knew in the Electrical Trade, they were good, and knew their stuff,
but hung up their hoses and gauges and retired.
But the cowboys are the ones giving the Refrigeration trade a bad name for all Fridgies.

... i don't know the exact reason, but the number of Aircon specialists have sure thinned out since the 1990's, there used to be one on every corner in the Gold Coast/Tweed Heads area.
I don’t know either but I’d guess EPA refrigerant handling regulations and the need for licensing to work on air condition systems may have reduced the interest considering how much people are willing to pay for aircon servicing

They don't use old refrigerant, most licenced places have strict guidelines and all service records logged and gas returned to the correct facilities, people use all sorts in their system from Hychill minus 30 to 134a some even try putting other things in like propane, the old stuff would be contaminated with all sorts, it cost them to send the old stuff back just like a tyre place has to charge in disposal of old tyres.
Never herd of a dryer exploding, Have herd people replacing A/C compressor and blowing them up due to condenser blocked therefor oil not getting back to the compressor.

Autospark ripped me off.

That's when it leaves you with the decision to say,
You want something done properly, do it yourself,
Many a time the Holden dealers I have dealt with over the years, have come unstuck with egg on their face's,
Not completing everything on the lists, that they said they completed on the service invoice,
provided it was all done, I didnt mind paying the invoice, but I wont be ripped off.

I think by pressure OP means airflow from the vents rather than actual pressures in the ac system or this forum.

Your quick to change your opinion.
First stop is get an aircon tech to rig up some gauges to it. Check gas amount. Maybe regas with dye to find leaks.

I would say the vacuum line valve got stuck open either by freezing or just didn't operate right, shutting it down fixed the valve flap..

And there it is. The Hychill rep

Nope still have that toxic 134a refrigerant with that toxic PAG oil that makes mustard gas in the right conditions.
I'm thinking of going to Hychill next service due to better engine performance and cooler vents and no toxic substance that can rust out your A/C system if the moisture happens to get in, also longer life out of your compressor as it stays cooler and doesn't get as hot as 134a running through it.
