I remember reading something that is a common issue with CC, but I can't remember what the problem is. I only have standard so would have only glanced at the thread.

The burning smell could be a sign of a coolant leak maybe heater core, are you loosing coolant, also any oil leaks, very much doubt its the compressor its a sealed unit no smell can come out of it unless your evap is leaking but then your A/C would not get cold.

sometimes the X comes on the screen and other times no X.
On my vt cc l once had the X come up on the screen. As l had just reassembled the centre part of the dash l tried pushing the plugs of the cc back in. It worked. No more X. Loose plug(s).

Too much or too little oil will damage the compressor.

But it's impossible to know how much oil was lost as it greatly dependant on what parts were changed and how sever the gas leak was.
Manufacturers service manuals normally have guides as to how much oil to add/remove depending on what components were replaced.
If you don't know this, you shouldn't be fiddling with a cars aircon system.
To legally work on a cars aircon system also requires specific licensing else if your caught, you may get a rather hefty fine

VT.
Depends if you had the system vacuumed out, if you just used a DIY can you be fine unless the compressor seals are leaking. 225ml is the correct amount in a Vy.
