Air Conditioning Blows White Mist

I have a 1999 VT Series 1 Commodore and the air conditioner blows a white mist with a dry smell to it.

Now, it only blows this mist after the car has heated up when you change the heat settings from full cold to something warmer. If you put it back to cold, once it has cleared all the mist from the vents it stops again.

I have had the gas pressure checked and the AC has had a full Holden service and they could not find the issue. It is not over gassed as it is not building up moisture or anything. All settings are perfect.

The water outlet is also clear and has never been blocked.

Can anyone suggest what this problem might be or has anyone seen this problem with their VT ?

It's your aircon system freezing up with the moisture in the air and then defrosting once it's turned off or the heater put on.

It's normal, but can get to the point where bugger all cool air comes out due to the ice blocking up the passageway. To overcome this you can simply run your fan on a higher setting eg 2 or 3.

It is unfortunately not freezing up. I wish it was as easy as that. This has been checked and confirmed.

The faster the fan speed, the thicker the mist gets.

I can run it on full speed at the coolest temperature and it never freezes up.

Any other ideas ?

Thanks for the tip though.

Cheers

Take it to an aircon specialist they will be able to tell you what it is straight away, holden can never find issues that they don't want to waste their time with.

But it doesn't last for long right?

More airflow decreases it's chances of freezing up, leaving the fan on low increases the chances of freezing, which is what I stated earlier.

Gday guys hows it going i am a qualified aircon mechanic the likelyhood of your system is freezing up is bucklys to none so rule that out. Sounds like it may need a regass if it has an oily smell or it could also be your compressor inside there is a valve that needs to be replaced. It sounds like the gas isn,t circulatng correctly its no biggie the part itself is worth around 60 bucks. Then i would recharge the system with hydrocarbon its a colder gas then 134a hope this helps.
