Hey guys,
Just wondering what the best way to troubleshoot my vx commodores air conditioning system. I took the car to the mechanic to get it looked at and they said even after the car was filled with gas, the a/c clutch wasnt engaging.

Cheers

do you have power at the clutch coil when ac is turned on
have you measured voltage each side of pressure switch when ac is turned on
mechanic could have performed some quick tests

yeah look,
i just replaced my abs today and i dont have a multimeter atm, although i can get one easily. I might have a look at it tomorrow if it isnt too hard to do, just tell me what to test and ill give it a crack

I also have a wrecked commodore out the back of my appartment, so i can use any bits off that if i need.

Thanks for the response btw

$20 multimeter from jaycar or supercheap
plenty of youtube how to use one
measure for battery voltage at the pressure switch, 2 terminal switch on skinny pipe of ac line
and wiring connector at ac clutch

Possibly low / loss of gas, and its activated the Low Pressure Switch to save the rest of the Hardware.

If you know a Refridge Mechanic, get him to connect a set of gauges, that will disclose all.
or
Take it to a Refridge mechanic,
or
There are a few mobile ones online.

Either way, There is a few different items that can cause it to NOT operate/function.

Try a new mechanic for a start. Even one that doesn't specialise in AC work should know the basics and how to test it. Maybe he missed the first day of Tafe.

Only arctick certified refrigerant mechanics are allowed to fill the ac system with gas. Any certified ac mechanics worth their salt should be able to sort out all manner of complex aircon issues let alone a rather simple ac clutch non engagement issue.

Hope you didn’t pay the mechanic anything for the non fix

So +1 for taking it elsewhere; to someone who didn’t miss the first day of TAFE :p:p:p

He said he didn't have enough time and needed to put it on a hoist
