    Hi guys,

Bit of a general question but for those who service their cars themselves etc when do you change your STOCK air filter,
When it gets a bit gruby or after rough time frame. Just interested in how often you guys do it compared to standard holden service replacement.

Ps my SS has done 36000km

    thanks in advance

36,000km with the stock air filter, time to replace it with a Duspeed or VCM OTR ;)

Seriously, probably follow the Holden log book, unless you drive in dirty/dusty conditions then I would be changing it sooner.

I do it about every 12 -15000 kms. They are very cheap to buy and simple to change. Good air flow is essential for good fuel economy and optimum engine performance - not to mention keeping the fresh air intake system clean. You will be surprised just how much dust these filters can pick up after just 10000 kms of city driving and a couple of long trips on major highways.

Definitely replace yours now. Holden suggest every 45000 in non-dusty conditions (otherwise at 15000) but 45000 is way too long in normal Australian conditions. Even half that is too long.

When you remove the old filter gently vacuum over the air box surfaces, especially on the clean side, to ensure there is no dust contamination when you are replacing the element.

I always replace the factory filter with a washable K&N type as a minimum in any vehicle, they are also washable so the initial cost of $120 dollars is worth it as they last the lifetime of the car.

id say YES replace it now with a K&N filter, even a mechanic from a holden dealership agreed and said "I'd run a K&N in everything as a minimum, they are a good filter"

If you plan on modifying the engine, then id say put an OTR style air intake system with a K&N filter to suit.

Just use compressed air to blow dust and **** out. saves replacing it all the time.

I do it all the time, I've done it to a few mates cars and they've said it's helped and makes a bit of a difference..

K&n washable is what i have . Costs near nothing to wash and re oil.

Cheaper thatn buying OEM replCements. Alot of aftermarket is junk.

K and n stand by factory warrranty as well.

Usa made so quality is great.
