hey all, i have a question, is it possible to put a light in behind the dial of a pressure gauge ( that doesnt have a light hole ) so it can be visible at night?

i have a pressure gauge that i want to put in my car for my airbag tank, i was wondering if i could drill a hole in the back of it, big enough for an LED, and then just put it in behind the dial face?? would this work? or would it cause the gauge to lose pressure,

Thanks, Darcy

some pressure guages use a piece of copper tube, which is shaped in a spiral. when it gets pressurised it expands and moves the needle. as long as you drill into the body ONLY, this type of guage would be ok.

but you need to find out what kind of guage it is. some are filled with alcohol, some are completely pressurised.

i think the op's guage would be pressurised if its for airbags wouldnt it? Might have to strap a couple of leds around the outside maybe? or get a glow in the dark face for it and then repressurised.

op, could you buy another guage that would light up? i.e. autometer or similar?

ill bet my left nut that that is the 'curled up tube' type of guage. which wil be fine to drill out.

who gets it if you are wrong :D
