Hi Folks,

I’m wanting to remove my rear MRC shocks in my 07 Senator and replace it with an air bag suspension system but retain the front MRC setup as I’ve recently replaced the fronts.

Does anyone know if this is achieveable?

I understand disconnecting the rear will throw codes and limit the vehicles speed, I was wondering if, through a tune, the rear MRC can be deactivated? My other idea was to possibly wire in some resistors or relays to make the vehicle think the rear shocks are still hooked up, I’m not sure if the resistance load would vary or not?

I know it’s a long shot but I’m hoping someone may have done this or can provide more info on the way the MRC system works.

Cheers.

Presumably you want rear air adjustability to be able to level the vehicle when towing.

Playing around with the vehicle electronics may be a bugger and more pain than it’s worth. It could conceivably be much simpler to look at getting an air bladder added to your existing rear MRC shock. It all depends on how the electrical wiring is connected to the MRC shock and whether the wiring would interfere with the operation of an air bladder.

Maybe you could speak to a shock specialist or a shoch manufacturer like Monroe that makes height adjustable air shocks.

No I just want the wank factor of airbags to be honest hahaha.
Something a bit different as most people just rip the whole system out and go for coil overs. I'm not to keen on getting under the car every time with a coil over tool to adjust the height.

I'd love to get the thing lower but without bottoming out over every car park speed hump so airbags offer the best of both.

Also as most know the MRC units are pretty exxy $$, I don't mind paying for them but if they're going to get harder and harder to get I'd rather come up with another solution.

Nothing wrong with wanting air adjustable suspension system :p

Have a look at what BMC, Merc & VW do on their cars. Great systems, some with electronic shock damping adjustment and push button height selection. Maybe you can look at a Frankenstein mode using such parts but it’s a lot of work to sort out what is needed and what will fit your commodore. Likely $$$ but it will be unique at the end of the day. Haven’t heard of similar being of the shelf commodore bolt on ready so lots of Sherlock Holmes work is needed.

Have fun and hope you work it out.
