I started my SV6 Ute on Sunday and the self test ran and spat out warnings about check airbags then "Contact Dealer" with the big X. I turn the Ute off and started it again. This time no errors. Is this just one of those random errors that sometimes happen and can I just ignore it for now? I'm assuming anything that causes a "Contact Dealer" message is logged and saved for the next service with a Tech2? BTW, I haven't done anything at all to the Ute lately so I'm 99.9% it's not due to me leaving something unplugged etc.
Ok, this is just an opinion of someone that doesn't really know anything and is old enough to still think all these safety things other than seat belts are luxury devices. So take it any way you like. Basically it's a computer. Computers do odd things occasionally. As any computer support person will say "have you tried turning it off then back on again?". So personally if it was just a once off thing, I'd ignore it. Worst case scenario I'd guess is they don't go off (which really isn't good). How's your battery? I've had warnings come up if the battery is low, but weren't actual problems. Any chance you know someone with a obd2 adapter? Even a cheap ebay one should be good enough to show you error codes. I know my car didn't log codes even though the warnings flashed up. (And you should also be able to clear error codes to see if it comes back again with an el cheapo adapter). BUT if it happens a second time, I'd personally get it checked out as this is my first car with airbags, so I'd like 'em to work since they're there. If you do get check it yourself to get an error code, there are some really smart and helpful people on here that can tell you what it means and what to try to do about it too. Now I'm thinking of my old VN - miss that girl sometimes. Which makes me also wonder if there's a way to read error codes without any tools. In the VN it was shorting 2 pins on one of the plugs, then the engine light would flash a code if there were any errors. Mind you with no safety (or any fancy) stuff there were a lot less sensors and codes back then. Anyway, up to you. Hope it's nothing but a once off random thing whatever you decide to do.
