I've got an 08 SV6, the issue I'm having with my aircon is that whenever I turn the vent on to the windscreen the aircon comes on automatically. It won't allow me to turn the aircon off when it's on the windscreen either. So basically if I want air on the windscreen it has to be aircon. Is this normal ? (I wouldn't have thought so) Appreciate your help.
Yes, it is normal! Commodores have done that for years now. My VYII sure did, and I think my VSII did also. Rationale is that you only put air to the windscreen if you want to demist, and AIRCON demists much better that even lots of heat. Makes sense to me. Cheers.
i was led to believe using cold air rids a foggy windscreen much quicker. thats why holden has that configuration.
put it is demise and foot vent option to overcome this problem. demise and foot option will let you have warm air
Aircon dries the air thus more effectively drying (demisting) the w/shield. I cannot get the lack of possibility to turn of the aircon and yet auto aircon with demister selection is a reasonable explanation. I'll hijack this thread (related problem) to seek an advise. No matter what function I select on HVAC, aircon goes on. At every turn of the vent, changing from blue to red temp setting and vice versa... Aircon = necessary evil for me. Causes nose blokage and sneezing. Not as bad in summer but instant in winter. I drive this car for work, often stoping... no matter what I select, after ignition it is gone to default: aircon on (even when I want heating only) QUestion: Is there a way to disable aircon (and I can get use to the aircon light being on) from under the bonnet? I removed IGN HVAC fuse... no effect. I remove BATT HVAC... the whole HVAC goes off. Maybe I should pull the connector on the actual compressor?
i had the problem with the aircon too on my ve ss.... it woulldnt turn off sometimes n stuff... it was actually a fault on the centre console.... so they replaced it under warranty never had a problem with it again
Well no, normally cold air will not work faster, but what is happening here is that the warm air from the heater is passed over the evaporator and is de humidified by the air conditioning process, and altho cooled somewhat, most, if not all the moisture is removed, extreme examples are seen on hot days when you see water dripping from the drain tube under the car, that's why Holdens done it this way.
I thought it uses the air inside like normal house a/c.... then the process is like what you stated.... well thats what i always thought... and you get dry skin from being in the a/c for prolonged times..
