Aircon rapid cycling at idle VN

Hope you can help me Guy - the aircon in my VN switches on and off in about 1-second pulses when in idle, with all the associated hissing and carrying on. It blows hot air immediately when it's off. It's usually ok while driving, but also switches off and blows hot air every now and then. For city driving its a major annoyance.

Any ideas? I had a full aircon service in dec 2003 and it seems full of gas - its really cold when its engaged. The problem's become more severe over the last few weeks, and now will hardly stay on at all on fan settings 3&4.

cycling on low pressure

might be getting low on gas charge ie getting near the trip point for the low pressure switch which can cause it to do what you are experiencing.
