Ahhh! Now im thinking IQ, its so much cheaper on ebay... And ive been looking at pictures of both, including yours zerone, I love the factory look. I am so confused now haha!
I have the factory iQ unit, with Alpine type S speakers and amp. Your argument is invalid! Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk 2
Thought we were discussing the unit? Not all the **** you can connect to it. Throw enough money at the IQ system and it'll sound very nice. But dollar for dollar, the Alpine wins. However, you lose the stock look of the vehicle, which suits some people. Also makes it less target-able for theft etc.
Ok, it doesn't have to be an Alpine headunit, Clarion and Pioneer are also designed for. I believe most double din units work, but definitely those 3 are fully able to be integrated and fully work with existing controls. So personally I went with a Pioneer headunit in mine. No regrets at all. For ease of installation and use, for functionality and for being able to choose a headunit that has all the features you want, go the "Apline" system. For looks, go IQ. If you like the functionality of the IQ then that's a bigger bonus and a no-brainer to go for. So I absolutely love my install and have played around with it a bit adding another screen for the HVAC display rather than showing on the h/u screen (looking to maybe add a third to run gauges - might not) or run rear screens through it and do a gauge screen separately with an android device somewhere. Anyway, I think it's friggen awesome, but I still refer to it as the "taxi-cab buttons". Zerone's looks a hell of a lot better and still has a lot of functionality, enough to satisfy most people I would say. Just have to pick what's more important to you, who cares what anyone thinks about your car but you. You have to live with it. It still looks good enough for me (but I upgraded from a VN, so it's still a big improvement) and don't really notice the buttons (well the never really bothered me). Plus I believe there are the touch screen HVAC controls now which might be more your style. There is not one way better than the other, I mean we don't all drive identical cars do we?
Ok Calais-V, I'll open my system to criticism for ya. In all seriousness, this is how I see it being a person more interested in function over form. Compared to the stock S1 SV6, I think it looks fine. Compared to Zerone_V's, well there is no comparison. His is mint, mine is more "taxi". And as for the function, I'm picky and did a lot of investigating to what had the bells and whistles suited to my taste, which doesn't say that what I like in a headunit is what others like, which is why I don't recommend this unit because I have it, but say people need to find what suits them. For example, Zerone_V loves the turn-by-turn on the centre cluster display, I don't. Neither of us are right or wrong. And yes I know the car needs a clean, but I couldn't be bothered as it's off to the smash repairers tomorrow. It'll be done when she's back. Also that HVAC display needs redoing at some stage, it was my first attempt at such a build and I learned what I could have done better. Uploaded with ImageShack.us[/IMG]
Ultimately i think it comes down to personal preference. It comes down to what u want, each will have their own pros and cons. Whichever one u do choose, i'm sure u'll love it as its a massive upgrade over stock.
I wouldn't waist your time and money with the alpine or equivalent the IQ hands down looks the best has pretty much all the functions you could want it is at a better height in the car to use while driving and makes a huge difference to the whole interior my personal opinion is the others just look tacky and you would be better of with standard
I've just ordered the fascia kit and hvac for the new 8 inch screen for my ss. Can't wait. I'll post pictures when I start installing which will be in a while!
Stuff it all go full custom But out of the two options i would go IQ just because of the way it looks and integrates, not to many of these guys have had to use the touchscreen HVAC controls, I did for about a year and trust me they are annoying and distracting.
I thought long and hard about the iq unit but it was just too expensive. Plus I spoke to a friend and I'm getting the whole 8 inch unit installed under 2k. Which really helped my decision making.
Installed for under 2k is an unreal price hookup considering i believe rrp on the 8" is 2k+ im well impressed
2 grand or close to for the alpine unit is bullshit over priced. Even the IQ is too dear. Thats why im keeping my series 1 ssv stock. I have the ipod lead running through the rear aux. I can't justify that cost on a head unit. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 2
I think the iq is still a worthy upgrade under 2k I am planning on getting this upgrade myself +1 for iq
Go the IQ with a good Audio processor. I put a JL Cleansweep and a couple of external amps on mine. While it probably isn't quite the same as the Alpine sound it's a massive improvement on the standard output and sound it had before. Plus The Alpine fascia is ugly regardless of sound. it looks like the climate buttons belong in something retro like a VK
I had the top one and it annoyed the crap out of me. Every time I went through a tunnel, the voice would say GPS signal lost. No ****, we're in a tunnel or I'm in my car park or at the shopping centre. The Navigation was also pretty ordinary. Some of the streets were assigned to the wrong suburb so it was impossible to find them using the GPS. If you were looking for a street and it had been split, the GPS would call it "South" whatever street name, even though the street you are looking for hasn't actually been named South..... Street. And of course you can't scroll through close matches because that would make too much sense. I would say about a third of the time I had to use my mobile instead of the Alpine GPS. One word to describe the system: ****. If there was a more harsh and descriptive word I could think of right now I would use that. Hopefully, the new version is better but I think it would have to be nearly impossible to get rid of all of the bugs in the previous unit.
That must be the actual headunit, not the HVAC controls. I put a Pioneer headunit in and think the Nav is pretty good. Sounds like I made the right choice as far as the unit is concerned. Buttons still look ugly though..... but functionality makes it worth it for me.
