Gee I am asking heaps of questions lately. Lazy lol

Ok stock head unit VX going to install a 2-channel amp for rear speakers and want to keep the standard speakers going with no affect on them (Apart from lowering the volume a bit which I can just run the fader back a bit if I just piggy back off them). So can I just piggy back off the rear door speakers and run them to the amp? Or do I need something to unamp the signal? (Coz I remember something like not to amplify into and amplifier), but if I unamp the signal will it kill my back door speakers?

If I do need to unamp the signal what do I need to get?

Regards

thats a hard one. but if you want to run an amp off the speaker wires you will need a high/low signal converter. im not sure if you piggy back tho.

So the high/low signal converter lowers the signal to the amp ie unamps it ????

Piggy back means to just cut a gap in the wire and solder a new wire on ie just like adding another wire, 1 wire in 2 out LOL

soz, i ment "im not sure if you can piggy back it". a high/low converter converts the audio signal to a much lower voltage (as you said "unamps it") to be used as an RCA input but can be a little bit distorted (what iv heard) so more people prefer to use a new head unit with RCA pre-outs instead.

for my VX Calais, i just split the wires for the rear speakers that were running into the stock amp, and connected them to my amp and it all works good...

Do you think there would be any difference between the "s" pack stereo and the Calais because the already had an amp in place??? You’re lucky to because the power and wires are already there and fused LOL Decksta jealous :)

There probably is a difference... The Calais is supposed to have a 10 speaker sound system with the two back 8" woofers running off the stock amp (which is a tiny thing: 10cm by 5cm by 2cm).

Best bet would be to check with somebody like Strathfield Car Radios or something to see whether you need a cross-over or a filter or as azzfox said a high/low converter

good luck with it!

although i cant see why you would want to amp your rear speakers but ok. anyway. Before when i was dodgey sob... back in my laser days. I did much of the same thing. Basically i ran 2 speaker wires down to the back of the car to connect up to the high low convertter and just joined the 2 + and the 2 - wires on the convertter together then connected them up to the positive and negative on the head unit. Worked fine for me.
