amp levels

ok i have a 4x50kw amp (i think) running a 12inch kenwood
its a fair old and crappy amp but can get the sub pumping

on the adjustments it has two screws which are the 'levels', just have to use a flathead to play with the power of the amp, its really touchy....just wondering if thiers an easy way to find the perfect level instead of sitting in the boot for hours playing with the levels to find maximum bass output

its pretty good at the moment but still not thumping as it has been...finding that 'level' seems impossible

any advice would be MUCH appreciated

ok the level is called the agin of the amp. its just the sensitivity (probably guessed this already).
have the gain set to minimum.
have all h/u equilisers and bass boosts set to naught.
ok set the h/u volume to the max you listen to it. (probably about 80%?)
now turn up the gain till you start to heard the sub sound distorted. its harder with a sub but just play some music you know well and try to listen for it.
now once you heard the sub distorting a tiny bit (distorsion is caused by the amp clipping (eg: trying to play too loud and it cant handle it)), back off the gain a lilttle.
there you go your amp will play at max bass with out damaging anything.
NOTE:
if you set any bass boosts then the gain must be turned down otherwise the sub will be destroyed.
