I'm with Stone here - I'll bet it's a resistance in the fuse holder that's causing the heat. It doesn't take much DC resistance to consume a good 10-20 watts at these kind of currents. BTW - formula for power consumption : P = I2R (that's "I {squared} R")

So, if you're drawing an average current of 10 amps, you only need a resistance of 0.1 ohms to be consuming 10 watts. There's not anywhere near enough heat radiating surface in a fuseholder to get rid of 10 watts, so eventually it will heat up to the point where the plastic melts.

Before you actually replace anything, re-terminate the cable into the fuseholder at both ends, make sure all the terminations are CLEAN, and try again.

Cheerz!

12voltking...... it really depends if they have used cheap arse 8ga, as you would be will aware you only have to compare RF or Stinger to some like aeropro and there is a difference..... let alone half the crap on EBAY that is not OFC or half the thickness or wire count.

But he has already said it's Stinger.

Besides, there are only a few cable manufacturers in the world...same **** different white name on the side.

ask sir_psycho_sexy about that one.... im not too sure

hehe thanks for the reference:D though i don't have an answer.

i'm agreeing with stone, 8 gauge is completely sufficient for this amp ( i own the same amp running off 8 gauge;) ) it may say 1000watt but its most likely under 100wrms.

My only thought would have to be a current leakage (or short circuit) somewhere on the power lead for the amp.

a high resistance joint which was sending the current levels through the roof.

that doesn't make sense, the battery is 12V so more resistance means less current flow.

It is alot better than people give it credit... we keep it in stock and use it.

Though normally go to the 4ga for this application but.. each to there own.

If it was RF then we would only go 8ga....

Cheers:thumbsup:
