OK guys my plastidip has arrive, here is my plan ... So whats going to be red: >Dash spears >Centre of dash (the black bit not the grainy bits where the hand brake is) >This same bit that runs down through the back aircon vents. >Red/black HSVi steering wheel should be here soon  So here is my issue I don't know how to get his part out ... any ideas guys ? Also opinions here please, because i can get the power window switch surroun off to paint, should i paint it or leave it as the ESP button is going to have black surround because i can't get the buttons free of the surround. And I also wonder if I should continue this theme up the head unit, because i know i can take the black surround of the head unit and paint it but just leave the buttons black .... to much ? Hopefully will get time to finish this in the next 2 days that i have off ... driving around with a gutted dash atm !
IMO the flat part of the console (around the switches etc.) is very plain, wouldn't hurt to paint it. The switches would be fine kept black. Oh and CLEAN OUT YOUR CONSOLE!!!!!
PLease they are all my free things i've won at maccas monolpy ! Also my AUX cord lives there because im not lucky enough to have a Series II VTSSLS1 I got it off eBay, aint cheap though $35 including freight !
Make sure you clean any and all protectants off the plastic first (crap like Armor All)- the surface must be as clean as possible. Multiple coats will make peeling off later easier as well.
What's with the cawk ring on your gear stick? You trying to make it longer Car looks great. Nice work!
The small trim piece behind the cup holder is just cipped in with a clip either side. Use a plastic trim removal tool (or be careful with a flat head screw driver) and pry it up from either rear corner, then the other. Same plastic clips that hold the front section in, to give you an idea. edit. Incidentally, that is the same trim piece that allows access to the hand brake cable tensioning screw
Does this mean I can tighten the hand brake myself? Because my lovely pals at Holden didn't do it last time it got serviced. Nek minnit SS-V rolling down the street :-/
Yep, enough to take up the slack at least - at some point it may need to be adjusted properly but I've done this once (to take up the initial stretch) and it's been fine since. Ricey gave me this info ages ago. Under the trim piece, there is a torx head screw that turns a spindle cradling the hand brake cable. Let the brake off (flat surface obviously) and progressively tighten the screw until you can only get 8 clicks from the lever to lock. I have no idea what size torx bit you'd need, but there shouldn't be much tension on the screw when the lever is down, so you can just wedge a flat head screw driver in there to turn it.
Plasti dip attracts dust like mad.. Good luck using it on the interior.. For interior I'd just be buying some cheap vinyl..
VE Commodore interiors attract dust like crazy - I'm used to it ! Who ever had the brigh idea of that pattern on the dash should be shot ! On a side note what should clean it with, obviously not armorall ? EDIT: Oh yea if you wanna have a look check it out here http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/ve-wm/200496-my-new-karma-ss-v.html#post2392881
Do you have a glossifier for your plastidip? Plasti dip isn't the easiest stuff to clean.. I find warm water to be the best approach.. If you don't have a glossifier to go over your plasti-dip and you want to give it a bit of shine maybe try something like "Mothers Protectant" on it..
I don't use protectant at all - I have a sunshade and use a microfibre cloth to dry and a wet microfibre chamios to clean if dirty. Never had a problem.
I don't know if I want gloss or matte look atm, I'm really liking how it came up and there is no other gloss in the car so it might stand out ?
