Another VS climate control question...sorry :(

hi all,

This is my first post!
I promise I’ve read through as many posts about my question as I could and none seem quite the same as the issue I’m experiencing

The car is a 1998 VS Caprice series 3 V6
The issue is with my climate control, select air to blow out of feet and works perfectly... select air to demist front window and works perfectly... select air to blow out face vents and it tries to redirect the air to the face vents but nothing comes out...

I have pulled out the centre console etc but couldn’t see anything wrong except for the black plastic “tube” that connects to the back of the climate control is quite loose..

Any help would be greatly appreciated and apologies in advance if this has actually been posted somewhere and I’ve missed it!

Firstly a big warm welcome to the JC Forums.

Sounds like the dreaded Vacuum module at the head of the console is playing up as they all eventually do.

This vacuum module is a long rectangular box that has 4 or 5 from memory circular holes showing that have orange coloured foam visible in them.

There's not much that can be done as far as I know to repair them. This part is no longer available in Australia but is still available in the USA as it was used in many GM vehicles overseas. There is a seller on eBay that was floggiing them as he bought them in numbers from Amazon US and sold them for around $120 AUD. The seller is "ad-87".

I had a look on eBay and couldn’t find anything.. I think my best bet will be to take it to a mechanic or aircon specialist and just fork out to get it replaced!

Just after I posted yesterday my ignition barrel went so I think I’ll look into getting that fixed first lol

That's the one and also the seller. He runs out of stock and then pulls the listing until he gets more via Amazon in the States. They are around $45~$50 direct from over there, so he's making quite a bit out of these.

I'll post a photo shortly of the genuine box with it's part number showing so that our members if they chose to do so can gain access to it direct from the States and not get so ripped.

Thanks but we all got that originally in P4.

I was just poking fun at the hard way of finding it when using it's correct name narrows the search down heaps.
