G'day all. If you hate 'which of these cars would win a drag' threads, then stop reading now.

A mate of mine has just bought an R33 GTS-T (5 speed coupe). He and I will be going to Willowbank some time soon and I am curious as to what times the skyline would run, and whether my Super 6 Calais has a chance. Should be approximately 200rwhp with the 10psi upgrade and exhaust upgrade by then.

I am thinking that it should be fairly evenly matched based on the fact that the power to weight ratio is very slightly better on the skyline, but then theres turbo lag and the fact that its got 25% less torque than the commy.

Would I be right in saying it is down to the driver? or is the gap likely to be larger than I realise?

the r33 GTS-t, come out standard with 187kw out of the RB25DET, so depending on what else it has done to it it could be more. They handle great imo, so if your putting out 200kw then id say in a straight line you might be in with a shot but around a track id say the nissan would have the edge quite easily as long as he can drive it :p . But hey let us know how you go!!

oh and the turbo lag is not that bad on skylines!

he shouldn't get much turbo lag on a racetrack if he knows how to keep the right gear and engine turning

I don't have much faith in his command of the 5 speed and neither does he lol. AFAIK the skyline is unmodified except for wastegate fiddling apparently bringing it to a full time 8psi.

It will only be a quarter mile because I am never going to risk my precious commy to such threatening objects like corners... :)

according to this website
http://www.skylinegts.co.uk/R33_spec.htm
the r33 gtr rb25dett does 0-100 in 5.3secs and quarter mile in 14 flat... and the r33 gts-t rb25det factory does 0-100 in 6.96sec and 1/4 mile in 14.3...they weigh 1390kg which s what kills em...if u can beat 14sec for the 1/4 i rekon u'd have him ...

running 10psi, id be putting in an intercooler, shift kit and get performance cam...with al that i rekon ud have a chance, just make sure u launch ur car good off the line when u's drag, take off plays a big part!

2x VS
Hmmm... I reckon you should get him off the line with the excess torque provided you practice launching hard without getting wheelspin...try stalling the auto to around 1500 rpm then ease off the brake get rolling then floor it... stalling to 2000 rpm gets time wasting tire squeal... you'd probably be alright with those rpms with a LSD and stickier tyres though !

You should beat him through 1st gear and through second at the start and he should catch you mid track punching hard into 3rd if his gear changes are any good and then hold you off to the line....thats if you run him stock....(this is my hypothesis)...I can't comment on the worked motor as I haven't experienced those mods... but I've seen rockers, exhaust and 3.4-5 (10 PSI) pulley get low 14's in an untuned VS Calais.

Try runnning your rear tyres a little softer @ 30-2 psi helps traction aswell

damn i didnt no s/c calais were that quick fairly stock! wouldnt lowering tyre pressure give u more grip but increase resistence ,and give u a higher et for the 1/4? id rather go with wider or stickier rubber, but then i never have wheelspin on take off now with my 235's except when it gets a bit wet, then we have severe traction problems, i onli imagine what it must be like for u guys with s/c v6,lol

hahaha...
Shaggerz, it sounds like you're apprehensive about not getting your nose past the finish line first - hence you started this thread.
We don't know what works the rice has had done to it, their weight shouldn't be far off our commies, but they can hall-ass...
Regarding turbo lag, if your mate knows how to take off properly, that is keeping the revs up then there won't be any lag - then you've got a race on your hands, if be backs off and drops the revs just because of a little wheelspin then he's stuffed it - don't tell him that if he doesn't already know.
Some tips - don't have your rear tyre pressure too high, drop it a bit for improve traction, can it run without the air filter just for the drag?
It's hard to foretell who will have a better launch if you don't have a stalled gearbox.
It sounds like both cars are pretty well match in capability and so my prediction is, thru experience of me mates many years ago, he who loves his car less has more chance of winning - that is if you love your car more you tend not to thrash it or take it to its limits.:yeah:
Let us know when yous are going, if free i might go down for a sneaky-beek and definitely a good laugh.
Good to see different cars slug it out and more importantly on a proper track and not like w@nkers on the road.
GO THE COMMY!
