I have tried them. I ask the guys at local UHF shop here in Port Macquarie & even told them cop cars have them. They told me NSW police VE SS highway cars dont have a rear wing LMAO all the way home.

I fitted the same base and mounted it on the boot of the Calais. Fits well but I have to remove part of the aerial when opening the boot fully as it is about 3ft tall!!! lol

Might look at some others in the future that are chassis mounted so I dont have to fold the antenna each f'n time.

Magnetic base is best way to go. That way you can remove it when car unattended and prevent theft/damage. Place it in centre of roof for most efficient performance. Placed at rear of vehicle is not the best location for them. Think you'll find that in such location, best performance is sideways !!

Honestly, there are hundreds of solutions for antenna mounts, and none are specific to a model of vehicle.

You can go for passive, or just plain "look at me".
You don't have to drill holes, or you can cut your roof open if you wish.
Drop into your local communications dealer and discuss the type of antenna you will need first, then work out your mounting options.

Here's a good place to start looking though if you want some quick info;
RFI Industries - UHF

The band you'll be looking at is 477MHz (Common 40ch UHF radios), unless you have an oldschool sideband CB radio (AM) which is 27Mhz, but not alot of people use them. I've linked to the antenna's for the 477MHz range, have a look at what's on offer and how they mount them, then consider options.

FYI, just because the Police have 'em, doesn't mean it works well...

I ended up with a RFI CD440 & a benelec boot mount. Works a treat

I know its been a while since this thread's last post but....a couple of questions, I have a 2011 VE CaliasV:
Where abouts on the boot edge did you mount the antenna?
What excatly was the model of the mount?
and
Can it quickly disconnected the antenna so that you can go through the car wash?

Thanks for any help
