I have fitted an internal antenna (I think they are called Diversity Antennas?). We do a lot of freeway driving, so I prefer to have the normal antenna retracted. I have fitted a small switch on the side of the transmission tunnel to allow us to put the normal antenna up (for poor reception in country areas) and a splitter on the antenna cable to allow use of both antennas. But the internal one is so good that we rarely use the normal one. The internal antenna is powered (from the radio power cable - so radio off- antenna off) and just sits on the dash on the left side. I had originally stuck it to the windshield, but the double-sided tape came unstuck, and I did not bother to re-stick it. I got mine from ebay, of this type: Mercedes BMW Internal Glass Mount Car Aerial RMA819 | eBay
Great idea will check it out Just cant stand antenna every time i change source on pioneer headunit. Cheers
Checked it out. Looks kinda bulky but might be able to hide it away somewhere if reception is still good enough. but as you said use other aerial when out of range.
