He means the inhibitor switch that stops your car starting whilst in gear (can only start in N or P), get that wired in to a switch and you have your self a kill switch..kind of..

the best anti theft device is kill switch
to install a kill switch you need a relay and wiring and basic electrical knowledge
the easiest kill switch fittment is a switch on the fuel pump fuse that is in the back of the fuse panel cut the wire that goes to the fuse and connect either side of this through the switched terminals on the relay then run a positive into one of the other relay terminals and an earth on the other the switch is installed inbetween the earth side and the relay and then you hide the switch somewhere e.g. roof lining under dash and when switch is off crank but wont start when on or left on works exactly the same as before

to rig a kill switch off another circuit you run the positive wire to the relay from the other switched device e.g. parkers circuit on thpositive side only problem here is you have to have that circuit on for the car to run!!! if in doubt google it "kill switch"
there is a million ways to do it so choose one you feel comfortable doing and understand
also IF automaticthere is an easier way find out where the wire is for park-nuetral switch and simply install a switch on that wire when switch off wont crank when on same as normal
and as an added benefit insurance goes down (well mine does with just car anyway!)
    hope this helps

I understood that much. I know what the isolation switch park/neutral is. I took it to mean start in in some other position like DRIVE!.. I see what he means now, I think. Basically make the isolation switch permanent unless the kill switch is toggled. I must admit I liked the cig lighter/park lights one. Love a wiring diag. Doesn't have to be a fancy drawing..

yup thats the only downside with that, it will start in gear if its wired to a switch.

I think the best idea so far is putting the kill switch on the fuel pump power wire..

    Ye taylorsvr,

I can't believe the number of different ways members have come up with, and all very interesting.
To answer your specific question, yes I did have a switch to dissable this 'secret' starting proceedure but I simply used it when I took the car to the dealer for warrany purposes.

But my switch was located under the engine fuse box anyway.

BTW, I had just purchased a second hand Senator SV5000 which had a small hidden pressure switch mounted under the carpet that had to be pressed to allow the engine to start. This car was stolen within 30 mins of being parked in the Sydney Airport Hilton car park during a Christmas work party.........no glass broken and within 20 meters of the reception office. Car was recovered somewhere in Strathfield the next day, completely stripped of the interior, wheels etc but they did leave me a milk crate for the seat, and scratched on the bonnet where the words Merry Christmas !

No problem, the insurance replaced everyhing missing with brand new stuff, new leather seats and leather door trims, new HSV wheels and Pirelli tyres.....new paint job EVERYTHING!

It cost the insurance about $35,000 to repair, but I ended up with virtually a brand new vehicle, it was as if it had just come off the HSV production line.

So many thanks go out to those retarded thieves, as when the car was sold 2 years later I got exactly what I paid for it in the first place...........:beer chug:

As I said if they want it it will go ! Fully insure your car, make it as hard as possible using some or all of the suggestions so far.

    Cheers.

Dont think wheel clamps will stop a determined thief, there was a young bloke i heard about not long ago, unsure where i read it but he managed to get it on & off his police clamped vehicle to drive it.

Thanks for that, the parking lights one doesn't look so attractive if they must stay on. Might have to look into getting the kill switch wired to the deadlocking mechanism in the door to see if that's possible. That'd be ideal I think.

Deadlock your car by turning the key in the drivers door fully anticlockwise, then return the key to horizontal before removing the key.
To unlock, turn the key fully clockwise.
The remote is inoperative when the car is deadlocked.
They can smash the window to gain entry but cannot open any of the doors to exit as all doors will remain locked till unlocked only with the key.

No matter what anti-theft system you have, it will still not prevent them breaking a window.

So, for my money, deadlock is the way to go.:smoking:

On my VS when I deadlock it I just turn the key fully anticlockwise so its horizontal and then remove the key.It doesnt go past that point.

Does anyone know how the deadlock actually works? I assume it must be electrically as it deadlocks all doors. If that's the case couldn't this be tapped into to provide current to an electrically tripped switch to cut the fuel making the deadlock also a kill switch? I'm not too up on electronics so I don't know what such a switch would be called so anyone with hints on that?

Every little thing helps when it comes to security, including the deadlock feature, anything that slows em down or makes it that bit harder is a good thing. If most people smash the window, they are going to think they can just unlock and open the door.Cant do this once its deadlocked. Also makes it a bit harder if theres more than 1 person to get in.Maybe smash all the windows out.I doubt it.It depends if you leave your car in your driveway or in town somewhere where its dark and quiet, which would be a dumb thing to do in the first place.Id say most commodores would be stolen by joyriders more than a professional thief.(depending on the money spent on the vehicle).Nothing will solve this though,if they want it.They will eventually get it.Theres not much you can do about it.Maybe sleep in it.Maybe chain it to a power pole.

In addition to using the deadlock feature, I also have a hidden kill button wired into the fuel pump circuit which I press when cranking the engine. If I don't press the button whilst cranking, then engine will start but die after a few seconds from fuel starvation. It is extremely simple to wire in and only requires 1 relay, 1 momentary contact switch and a few metres of wire. The button is hidden in an accessible position and 2 wires run back to the relay located up under the parcel shelf.
I can take pix of my setup if anyone wants me to.

Brett - maybe the keylock cylinder has moved in it's mount. Here is the diagram from the owners handbook.:beer chug:
