Fellow Jc's A bit of a weird topic ha ha but anyways, might be able to relate to some people on here. Just wondering If any of you have gone through with major surgeries/operations before, what it was for and your experiences. If so post em up lol ! Around a year ago I had a metal bar inserted across my chest, situated underneath my ribs and with that two brackets to hold it in place. It was put in to correct the shape of my ribs and push them out, while also helping my posture. Simply the bar forced my ribs out to the correct shape. Through such movement and change, I had extreme pain. If I could describe it, it would feel like having all of your ribs broken and some fat kid decides to sit on your chest. On top of that I had to stay in hospital for 1 and a half weeks, with morphine and a lolly bag of pills (which really didn't help), no sleep for a week and I was so sick the slightest movement I would perk up every were. That week and a half I had to stay in hospital was probably the worst and most uncomfortable week of my life but I'm happy I had it done, from that I get cold chills every time I pass a hospital, I never want to go back ha ha. It took me around 2-3 months to recover fully, but it was slow and the pain progressively went away, it sucked as I mist out on heaps of sport and activities with friends. Ill have to man up soon as I have to get the bar removed In around a year haha. Also with the surgery I had their was hardly any scares, so that was good. Its funny because I can actually feel the brackets on the side of my chest, people get so bugged out when they feel them. blah blah blah sorry for being so detailed lol and also don't think I'm looking for sympathy or support /similar crap, I just thought it would be cool to post up this experience of mine. Reason I'm blabbering on, is I generally havn't liked talking about it, and never really talked to many other people about their operations and experiences, it would be great to hear other situations. cheers, James :yeah:
i had a hernia corrected when i was 15 (abdominal wall tore, leavin my intestines to relocate) but it didn't work and i had it redone 1 year 1 week and 1 day later. i now have a small piece of mercelin mesh sewn into my abdominal wall. nothin major like yours. i found out about 2 years ago that i have a calcium growth on my shoulder joint, which will eventually grind through the tendon and i'll need a shoulder rebuild. but they said that could be anywhere from 10-25 years
quick reply! Im not alone ha ha Thats crazy, you would of hated going in for a second time, I know I would have. Did they make a mistake or just happened? hope your shoulder problem turns out to be ok with that surgery. At least its not for a while though.
My major operation was when I was 18. I had a titanium tooth implant in my front tooth. Its a procedure performed by a maxillofacial surgeon. Essentially they insert a titanium tooth in place of one of your real teeth. Basically they gave me 3 injections into the gums, which burned like hell for roughly 30sec or so per injection. Then they drill into the jaw, and insert a titanium abutment into the jaw. This was left for a couple of weeks to heal. The idea is that the bone will grow around the abutment, much like a plant growing around and up a pole. After that, the titanium tooth is attached to the abutment. Absolutely fantastic procedure. You would never know that I had an implant, it looks exactly like the surrounding teeth. Its also incredibly strong; the surgeon told me in order to remove the tooth you would have to cut the jawbone attached to the abutment. PS: As painful as it sounds, it really isn't. The worse thing was receiving the injections, but they were over pretty quick. You could have punched my jaw and I wouldn't have felt it lol.
i've had four operations in 10 days for a broken around cos had compartment cindrome (where muslces swells up) doctors reckon was like 1hr away from loosing arm now got plates in wrist to hold bones together..
i once removed my penis by means i would rather not discuss of and had i reattached. talk about being scared for life.
it was that long ago i don't really remember hating it or not. i still have flashbacks of waking up from the general and feeling like an icecube (they said i nearly froze to death in recovery. on a 30 degree day) but it was one of those things where if the intestine was through the hole and the muscle contracted, i had something like 9 minutes to get to hospital 30km away, get knocked out ad opened up. so hate it or not it had to be done
I have had 4 major ops on my legs now, first op was to fix both broken legs, second op was to insert metal plates into each leg, 3rd op was to correct the stuff up from the surgeon who inserted the plates, 4th was to correct muscle damage caused by op 2 and 3. End result, can't run.
Laser eye correction, isn't bad at all now, I had it done when you still had to put 20drops a day in your eyes and rub a cream on the eyeball 3 times a day and talk about vamire, for the first three days I even had to turn off my alarm clock as the LED's were too bright. All worth it now however, worst part is only two years after that a girl I know had it done and she was in on Friday and back at work and could see 100% on Monday, no pain, no creams, just the odd drop, I was in pain and out of it for at least a week or two.
I had my tonsils out, my adenoids scrapped and something in my nose quarterised. Doesn't sound like much, but as an adult it's fairly painful. Have to have a bunch of pain killers before eating anything, talking sucks and it feels like I have an ear infection in both ears and tonsilitis. Only other operation I've ever had was wisdom teeth.
Yeh one way of discribing it, it was also a very extreme case. It was mostly due to me growing so late and rapidly that my ribs grew in the incorrect shape. Mate my posture has always been a big problems for me, this surgery helped but my posture still isn't the best. Heaps of doctors, chiropractors etc tell me It can be fixed over time, just with stretching and working on it. Maybe you should see a chiropractor and see If he can help. With stretching, another big factor with posture Is were you position your shoulders. First try keeping your shoulders in line with your body not slumped forward, that's what I have been trying to work on.
Yeah I might have to do something soon. I have quite a bit of 'upper' back/shoulder pain. The best article I have read on posture is here: Posture And Bodybuilding. However I guess the biggest problem is that you can clearly see he is putting it on when he has his shoulders slumped forward. Mine naturally sit like that, and it's quite uncomfortable to make a line out of them. Additionally - I feel like I look stupid when I do it .
Not major surgery by any means, but bloody unpleasant. Injection directly into the left eye to correct retinal throbosis. Nothing I have hated more than watching the needle coming in and not being able to turn away.
I had surgery after my VP got smashed by a semi-trailer. 65 stitches, 8 months of dressings and 4 months of physiotherapy. So grateful for general anesthetic!
Yeh that's exactly like me! they 'naturally' sit forward and it feels so uncomfortable and stretched when I put my shoulders against my body. You feel heaps awkward ay haha I hate it. I just try and do it whenever I remember, then its not as worse sometimes.
