81/85 combo tends to make every guitar sound the same. I'd be going bareknuckles, or dimarzio. Though can't go wrong with duncans.
ya i agree bout the 81/85 or 81/60 combo, im sure there a nice pickup but if i want actives id go blackouts, for teh br00tlz lmao if i can get bareknuckles id get em, but most likely duncan distortions would be my choice, but the hz's arent too bad, got a nice crunch to em, but they sound a bit stale, if i can be bothered doin a sound clip id do one lol
If you're in the SE burbs welcome to come play my jackson with 81/85 combo. Sounds awesome, but I reckon most other guitars in the same $$ bracket as the jackson with the same combo would sound very similiar.
Ive played bass for 25 yrs, and i still cant play a guitar haha,, i play ibanez and aria pro basses. I have a black sr300 ipt 4 string, a silver btb705dx tkf 5 string a ariapro series 2 4 strong and a paul gray signature bass. I use an ampeg b2 svt head and two swr quadboxes also various effects. I like tool slipknot primus pennywise mudvayne etcetc. Tip to a snappy funk sound. Use two a strings and two g strings tuned eadg
Go down to your local guitar shops and see if they have your model guitar with other pick ups and try that or just experiment with it if you've got the cash that is.i disagree with the statement that they make every guitar sound the same because given different wood characteristics and shapes also effect sound as do strings brand and even gauging and even what plectrum is used.personally I prefer high output passives because I hate changing the 9v battery haha
Emg's sound like emg's no matter the guitar you drop them into, the tone does change abit whether it be dark, bassy, bright etc. I can tell if a guitar has emg's in it at a gig without even having to see the guitar. It's not hard, and I don't have the best ear for music. Don't get me wrong, different guitars will make them sound different, and so will different woods. I've got mine wired up as 18v instead of 9v which helps but still if I could be bothered I'd wire in some better pickups.
Well I've played on and off for about 2-3yrs now. Took lessons for about 6 months when I first started. I've barely touched guitar in the last few months though. I uploaded a few vids to youtube at one stage so I could see the difference/progress in my playing over a year/s but that fizzled out after a couple of months and I'd say I've gotten worse, not better I also have a bass and an acoustic.
I play a bit. Been Jammin' for over 20yrs & still play like crap! lol My gear: Yamaha G100 series 3 head. Very versitile head! 2 x Marshall JCM 800 cabs. A & B. A bunch of pedals [ yep, old school!] I would be lost without my DD-3. My 2 favourite girls 1990 Ibanez RG550. I've had this for 20yrs & still love it! 1988 1banez FP Jem. Only had this for about 5mths & am still getting used to it. Strings on both are 009-042 D'addario XLs. Main influences are Satch. Here's a sample: Plz excuse the mistakes, i did say i was crap. lol
I've been playing for 4 or 5 years. Not in a band though; except for 3 years ago when i was still in school ;p haha good times. I have 2 acoustic and 1 electric guitar. When it comes to playing I prefer my Ibanez acoustic ... and playing stuff by like Jeff Buckley; Creed; Black Crowes; City and Color; Never shout! Never...... On electric I mess around with parts from Metallica songs; Slayer; ETF; Motley Crue etc... I have photos but my net is being silly. I'll try again to upload them in a sec.
I have been playing on and off since I was about 12? maybe, and Im almost 20 now. I hadn't picked up my Guitar for about 6 months. One day I was cleaning the house and the guitar caught my eye, so I picked it up and gave it a strum. It was still tuned haha so anyway i must have sat on my bed for an hour working out how to play all my old songs. I would put it down and do something else then remember a song and pick the guitar up and working it out again. It was like I never had put the thing down, besides the sore fingers of course lol I dont know any complete songs, apart from "House of the rising sun" and "Purple haze".

My guitar rig Jackson PC-1 - This is my main guitar. I finally got it off layby in July after having it on there since October '12. Being a big Def Leppard fan (Steve Clark was one of my guitar influences), I've always wanted one of these since I was 15. I actually looked at getting a Chlorine Blue imported, but it was going to cost over $5k. Last October, I was on my way to my mates place for the Grand Final, I stopped into my local guitar shop to get some strings for my acoustic. I saw the PC-1 (Solar colour) hanging up behind the counter (Which was a first considering I've never seen any around!), I asked to have a look at it and have a strum, asked for the price and instantly put it on layby. Apparently some guy ordered it in and changed his mind at the last minute. I got this for $3600. The strat sitting next to the PC-1 is my Mexican made Fender Stratocaster, I've had the guitar since I was 16 (2006) and was my main player right up until I got the PC-1. The strat replaced my POS chinese squire strat that I started playing on and fell apart within 2 years. I'm looking at doing some upgrades to it soon, the stock pickups are lifeless, so I want to convert it to a s/s/s config with a black pickguard, replace the bridge and put some locking tuners on it. I considered installing a Floyd (non recessed) in at one point but decided against it. My Amp: Orange Tiny Terror Jim Root signature. I recently bought this to replace my Peavey 6505 amp head as I wanted something with low wattage and more quieter for home/jam use. And its light too which makes it easier to lug around when I go for a jam etc. Cab & Effects: Fender Supersonic 4x12 & Boss GT-100 The cab has vintage 30's in it, great sounding cab. Currently up for sale as I want to switch to a 1x12 or 2x12 (again so Its easier to lug around). The effects board is great, but too digital sounding and I only ever use Delay, Reverb, Chorus and wah so I'm considering switching to foot pedals.
Fathers Day brought me this girl... not a bad unit, plays very well. HBs leave a little to be desired but easy enough to change. Thinking some Seymours might be the go. While on the topic of guitars, has anyone played a Tanglewood? English design asian built acoustics? I picked one a few years ago and never really played it (got it for a bargain and thought it'd make a good hack) well I pulled it out of the cupboard the other month and threw a set of Elixirs at it and have found it to be my new work horse. Sound quality on stage I've found to be quite comparable to my Cole Clark FL2. Studio wise, I would never use it. But as a work horse... I can't fault it. Anyone else found a similar thing?
