I’ve been having a good look at the oil leak. It does seem to be from the top somewhere and spreading from there.

I don’t think this engine has ever been cleaned.

The oil pressure sensor seems clean and surrounding area is grot.
Can the oil pressure sensors really leak that much?

I’m new to these engines, but Valley cover? Maybe knock sensor seals?
Rocker cover seals might need a look too.

Not sure if it’s worth it though. This motor will be rebuilt in coming months.

Only had a bit of time today with more pressing matters at heart.

I was going to do this at a later date but have decided to do it now. I’m doing the old painting the bezel on the centre trim gag.

Why? Well I have had a gloss black cluster (it will get a polish) surround for a while and I have gloss black door vents to go on. Chrome door lock clips.

I was going to hold off installing speakers etc, but with everything out, it will make it so easy.

I was thinking of wrapping the bezel but it’s so easy to paint. Ebony Black will be going on tomorrow. In my current V6 Crewman, I have gloss black, and I like it a lot.

So I pulled it all apart again.

Because it’s a separate part, I was able to get the tape under it and in the corners, some paper.

Well today was perfect for painting here in WA.

I painted the centre trim today. One section turned out great. The other kept getting really fine bubbles in it. It may have been too hot?

Anyway, it will buff up ok.

I did the aluminium panel in the front bumper. It was a bit how ya going. I knew by painting it, it will show up all imperfections. In I went. Tapped out the shape a bit. Etch primer, and then wheel silver. The silver is perfect. Maybe. Maybe I should have used satin silver. I had the wheel silver already so made the most of it.

It is better than it was, so that’s a win.

Will keep an eye out for a new one I think.

You will notice the fog lights out too.

Looking at this bumper bugged me with that panel and the fog lights. They were yuck.

Looking to use a DRL/LED fog light combo in time to come but for now, let’s clean these up.

Dismantled them. Screws were rusted so they’ll get replaced. Vice grips worked to crack them loose.

Then I cleaned everything up with a wire wheel. A it if rust on various bits so into a tub of phosphoric acid for a clean. The metal rings that hole the reflector housing came up great.

Then a scrub and wax and grease remover.

I cleaned the plastic housing with aerospace 303. Scrubbed it in fact. Used one of the kids toothbrushes.
Left is before. Right after.

What we are looking at here is some panel sealant into a couple of places.

Around the air intake for the HVAC. There was a gap that allowed water and mud to sit between the factory applied sealant and the lip of the intake. Fixed.

Also, a similar thing where the water drain is in the wiper area. A lip of sealant allowed water to sit, rather than drain. So that’s fixed. The other side wasn’t like that.

I think the person who did the panel sealing on this car was doing work experience.

Also cleaned the black macro suede fabric I have left from doing my V6 Crewman. This will be used to retrim the black interior panels. I did this in my current Crewman and I really like it.

I had stored it in a storm water pipe with screw caps on the end. I did not put moisture absorber in there. Mould grew on the bottom of it. So I air dried it. Then yesterday I hosed it, then scrubbed it with water, canesten laundry cleaner and laundry liquid. Got all the staining out and it’s hanging on the line drying. It smells nice. I’m going to have to iron it

Really happy with how this has turned out. I already have the rear vents from a Calais. I also have a gloss black bezel, but because I can’t find a centre console at anything below *$1000, then this will do fine.

The unpainted black plastic bit in the middle got a buff with plastic polish because the finish was so blotchy and tired.

The top gauges had some sort of etching into the Perspex so I got them out and buffed them with plastic polish. Even then, on certain angles, you can still make out the marks.

It is heaps better though.
Just something else that would bug me every time I look at them, so I’m happy to do it.

The top got a buff as well to clean off the various marks etc.

For anyone wondering, just used a soft foam buffing cone on the drill.
