Huge thanks to everyone who let me know if they saw one for sale. Thank you for the offers to check out interstate Cross8’s for sale.

Interestingly, one of you said the right one will pop up. It did.

Did the old player 3 enters the game in the last minute of the auction.

My new Cross 8!
12months of looking for one. The long game has ended.

**** Edit**** If you recognise these plates and the car, I'd love to hear from you and learn about this cars story.

*Edit it was owned by AusMesh Saftey Mesh in Melbourne. (Dandenong?)

Next will be someone good in Perth to rebuild the LS.
I’ve never owned a V8. Mates all have, my sister has had heaps.
Now I have one!
The kids are excited too.

VY SS Ute (Jimi Hendrix)
Congratulations Fu; looks great.

We have recently done an LS1 rebuild in the shed - if you can work on a 6 you can work on an 8 - nothing at all to be afeared of! If you decide to do an LS1 rebuild you can certainly do it yourself and farm out any specialist work on the block or heads to keep costs down; but it takes time. For us we have the liberty of not requiring it for our business or daily run about so there is no rush on getting it finished.

We started with VY running gear and a VZ shell - straight but not well looked after paint wise. The interior is OK but will require a refresh (steering wheel and seats). At the completion of our little project we will have a running SS Ute, once we link the ECU, with a refreshed powertrain, some go fast bits and a bit of owner built pride on the road for about $5K, including the cost of purchasing the wrecked VY from the insurer and the VZ shell. We could have bought one in unknown condition for that price I guess but there is no fun in that. More funds will be required to finish the interior and the paint the beastie - but for my purposes having her on the road is the initial requirement.

Suffice to say - you simply require a clean area to work in, plenty of ziplock bags, a marker pen, a good recording system and a systematic approach to it. You don't have to be over the top either - empty beer box to stick pistons and rods through in order, raid the t shirt drawer for plenty of clean rags and of course time in the man cave. We are lucky - living on a small farm with a machinery shed means space was not an issue.

You can strip it down easily and then check the components for wear etc. We ended up only doing a refresh as opposed to a full rebuild. Pistons and bore were fine - valve seals were on the way out. Replaced the cam, double row timing chain, new springs, pushrods and valve stem seals. All up we were in the hole for about $2.8K for parts gaskets etc. I expect you could double that if you took into account labour; especially when you consider the extras you do when you are doing it for yourself.

Can't help you with any advice re support in the west unfortunately.

Best of luck with the resto - I look forward to watching developments.

Cheers n Beers

I paid $8300 in a vigorous bidding. Went after the auction ended for another 10 mins.

A bit more than I was wanting.
It has 300000 though but looks immaculate. Certainly better than almost so far. For the price and how tidy, I’ll take the k’s.

There was one other bidder, if not for each other the car would have gone for $6500.

It’s in Melbourne.
It’s coming to WA.

I have a hard lid for it.

I have thought about doing it myself.

Also spent a fair bit of time thinking about a VF LS2 and 6L80E combo. All comes unstuck at the rear transfercase adaptor and rear mount.

Would need one fabricated.
The 4L80E transfer case adaptor was borrowed from the US, but haven’t been able to find from what?
From what I can find, the AWD transfer case was designed by Holden, but so far have found similar looking ones on S10’s.

Be good to find a 6L80 adaptor to fit our AWD transfer cases.

That side is pipe dreams for now.

:D Photo looks good. More info please on where, how far and how much.
My wife found it by accident. It didn’t come up on any searches I was doing.

Went looking amongst my collected useless info, because I read somewhere in Wheels/Motor mag back when, that the transfer case had something to do with Hummer, but as usual could not find what I was looking for.
