Just did the two seats. I’ll never use the Oakwood again. I didn’t use much of that. It was a light covering. The Palmers I did use a lot.

The products I used (minus the magic eraser)

Wiped off the excess from the seat. (A new microfibre) pulled lots of grit out of the leather before I’ve even got any products on to clean it.

The Palmers got the base part that was hard, about 40-50% softer. No oily residue.

Then I used Mother’s VLR and a scrub with an old toothbrush, wipe with a microfibre. Then VLR again, and a Magic Eraser. Wiped up again with a microfibre. Then a wipe over with the magic eraser again and a wipe. Nice Matt finish. Soft leather again. Not like new but as good as I’ll get.

(This is a bit misleading. A lot of light reflection in the photo that you can’t see in real life. They are much more Matt finish.) I’m amazed at the difference, which is also after them being cleaned 3 months ago. You can see the grot on the pads and the cloths, which were fresh.

The steering wheel is also really soft. Feel really nice. I didn’t think it possible.

Cleaned all under the seats too. No fluff and dust anymore.

I’ll go and do the other one again to try and get the oily finish out.

Got the front seats soaked/lathered up with the Palmers.

Rubbing it on, it gave me a weird hard on. That’s normal, right?

Let’s see how much gets soaked up.

Me when I’m doing the seats with cream and the forum seeing it.

Also prepping the car to have the exterior deep cleaned and then detailed.

Put the air box back in. MAF in etc. to cover things up a bit.

Heaps of grot underneath. Grease splatters from some busted drive shaft boots over the years. I get the impression nothing under there, or under the bonnet has ever been cleaned.

The front wheel well covers have that same grey/green schmutz that I’ve been finding everywhere.

What the fk soil is there around the Mornington area that has that colour???

Much prefer to see WA red dirt on it in time to come.

Good tip ......... thanks for posting those.
So I got some of Mrs. Palmers Coconut Oil Body Lotion, and tried it on the Territory, as I didn’t want to make a mess on the Monaro seats.
Impressed, seems to have got the wrinkles and creases out, and no oily residue. Smells ..........…. a bit different.

The reason I like Oakwood is that when the Monaro was just over 4 years old, the back seat stitching broke apart and the leather went like cardboard. Neither the Holden dealer or HCC were of any help, and new covers were about $800 per side. I was working for a motor trimmer at the time, so we stripped the covers, gave them a liberal coating of Oakwood, and after about a week the leather was soft enough to restitch it with UV resistant thread.

After Christmas, that seat will be coming out again for a good rub with Mrs. Palmers.

The two palmers products have been interesting. At first it was the thicker butter one that worked best. The back seats got done with the one on the left and the leather is getting softer everyday. Amazing. Was hard. It’s starting to feel new again. Has a slight waxy finish/feel. Smell is not as strong but it’s bring out the leather smell that probably hasn’t been there since 2006.

I’ll do the front seats again with the thinner lotion. I did put it on really liberally. Let’s soak in overnight. Wiped off.

I couldn’t help myself. I gave the seats another soak.

562FC791-6E34-48C9-9569-9241BC755863.jpeg

This time I used a brush. Each seat soaked up one bottle of the the thinner Palmers lotion.

It was soaking in as I was pasting it on!

Did the steering wheel again. Also did the door trims.

Next morning...

A quick wipe after these were taken, and not even greasy.

The seat base part has greatly softened up even more. They were hard when I started this process. Getting softer. The rest is quite supple again.

Also, I bumped a spark plug lead today. Just fell off. I have no idea how I got this thing home. It must of been hanging on with a few threads.

So doing some internetting, it seems the best leads are Granatelli. Not available though :( Covid maybe?

I used to use 10mm TopGun leads and MSD coils on the VP. No idea what is good anymore. It’s been 10years since I have had to do any leads.

Most search results are 10-15years old now. I’d imagine there’s been advancements since then.

I may as well do plugs too. AC Delco seems to be the go there. That’s easy.
