Got the fkn seatbelts back in. Super hard in a crewman. Not fun.

That plastic box is glued to the floor and also seals the floor from the road.
Not able to be removed without “issues”.

So hands don’t fit in well. Just used finger tips to screw in the bolts. 2hrs. They could have easily gone under that plastic box while trying to thread them back in. Hand doesn’t fit well. Worst case scenario, fumble one and it goes under there through a gap at that spot. No chance of recovery.

I might add that the plastic box prevents a socket getting on there easily. It’s a struggle getting it on there to remove the bolts. Would have been good for Holden to have had some cut outs to accommodate that. Clearly the belts are fitted first on the assembly line. Then the plastic boxes are glued and bolted in.

The belts are housed in those boxes which are bolted to the floor.

Lots of my favourite pop up sprinkler lube on the threads before re installing them.

Also put the top cross beam trim back on. All looks new.

Rerouted the firewall earth strap. Supposed to go through the hole.

Cleaned out the corners by the hinges.

And cleaned out the mirror mounting area.

Cleaned behind the indicators. Had some WL indicators to go on, but one of the clips was broken :(

Got the front door insulation sorted. Glued the felt and foil over some wadding. Used the wadding to fill spaces in the door card shape.

I found some panel sealing that needed attention. I completely overlooked it. So did Holden on the day. Again.

I cut away the sealant crevice (above that green line) and cleaned it out. This sat against the metal, no rust, thankfully.

I got some new sealant in there and made sure there was nowhere for grot to pool up.

Not the cleanest finish. It’s done though so nothing I can do. It’s better than it was.

On another note, had a look into the top on the head through the oil filler and it’s clean as in there.

There is some evidence of some sort of massive coolant failure in the engine bay in this cars history. Maybe it has new heads. Doesn’t look 300,000 kms worth in there.

When I get the motor done, we will find out more I guess.

So I redid the speakers.
Got rid of the carpet underlay. This time used pvc foam and neoprene. I used left over bits of sound deadened around the speaker pod. I also used some nuts that allowed the neoprene to compress but not distort the cone.

Also getting the engine bay paint more like the exterior paint. It had a grey grin embedded into the paint. Was really noticeable. It’s had maybe 5 or 6 cleans with a soft brush and sugar soap and citrus oil. This time I soaked it in strong sugar soap. Then scrubbed it all with a soft brush and rinsed off with water in a pressure sprayer. It’s almost like new.

I also detailed the dip stick.

Another thing bugs me with many Commodores (and almost all cars) is the cheapness of the feel of console bins. Hollow. Tacky sounding.
In my VP ute, I cut the bin off and made a strong console box from 12mm ply.

So I had left over deadener and did the centre console. Also did inside the lid.

Polished the instrument cluster.
Clearer than something really clear now.

Cleaned the cabin air temp sensor behind the cluster surround.
Heaps of grot on it.

Installed the drivers side speaker harness I made. Also mounted up the splitters on the back of the plastic box under the seat. This is the only time I will use butt connectors and I hate them. They do terminate well for this application though.
