Hi a newbie Commodore owner, and new here, went to check the radiator coolant via radiator cap, after first day of ownership of a vY11 wagon....it turns easily but won't come off.
It appears a new cap.
Is there a trick?
Also own a rodeo LX and never had this problem where cap appears nice and helpful turning, but refuses to lift up.
Any help appreciated, as dip stick is showing below minimum and filled and then below minimum 200kms later.
Car is running great and temp gauge never fluctuates from just below halfway once engine warmed , even with air con on high.
Cheers

*edit* V8 brain talking there

Don't forget the V6's cooling system should be bled from the bleed valve not just "topped up"

there are two parts to the plastic cap, the outer just makes it look pretty. Sounds like the outer is spinning on the inner.

It will turn a little easily, but then you have to push down a bit and turn it more.

Thanks to all, just to clarify, have pushed down and cap turns clockwise about a 1/4 turn , then nothing won't turn anymore won't lift off, won't come off after wiggling it, don't want to try and force it off in case something breaks.
Starting to get paranoid what may be lurking underneath cap.

Isn't it anti clockwise?
It's a quarter turn for initial seal and another quarter turn to take it off, anti clockwise and push down at same time
It may just need to crack the seal.

YV II Acclaim, non daily.
If the radiator is original its probably time to take it out and throw it away anyway - I wouldn't be too concerned about breaking it if you have another vehicle to drive.

I had a cap for my VT which went on but didn't come off.
Had to destroy it to remove it.
Sometimes the little tabs on the cap that locate and lock the cap into position can be a little bit out, jamming it on.
Also, the filler neck being plastic, can roughen up, sometimes making it also hard to remove,
