It's a loose budget. I can spend more, but don't really want to unless the value is there. What would you recommend for someone who wants decent quality and affordability.
mines all setup from my home PC as many cameras as you have USB ports to plug them into motion activated capture.i get any motion activated video emailed direct to my email or can stream it to FTP site
$1500 If you install youself should get a decent system, my Everfocus DVR will also send an e-mail trigered by either motion or an alarm signal
Your gonna need some pretty high end gear if you want number plate recognition ability. Especially at night. Alot more than $1500
Aldi have a 4 camera system for $299 next week. I might get one. I don't know if the quality is any good or not. If you are not happy you can return them, that's their policy. ALDI - special buys from wed 20 mar - hurry, limited stocks in store* I had a Swann System with cordless cameras which weren't real good. Took me about a year to figure out why my WI-FI modems (tried several) didn't work (only worked when plugged in by Ethernet cable), the cameras were on the same frequency and interfered with the modem.
When I was living in Balga, Perth about 10 years ago, I installed a basic 2 camera system in my unit. There had been 3 stabbings in the block of 30 units in a month and I had been broken into mutilple times. Used to park my car a couple blocks away at a mates place, or I would have become an unwilling free taxi or the proud owner of a severely vandalised car. I had a P4 in the roof recording onto a 120G HDD with motion sensing. The cameras weren't much better than the crap webcams of the day, but they were much smaller and quite well hidden. Still don't know who it was that broke in and found the computer in the roof. At least they didn't steal the cameras I guess... I moved.
UNIDEN 2 camera works good for me $500 at Dick Smith, but need a 64SD card to get about 5days recording
