So following on from the other thread where I have been removing the last of my LPG system and rear foglight, I found this plug loose behind the dash.

The brown and white cable that has been spliced into is a switched live which only comes on with the headlights (hence why it was used for the foglight I guess) but I can't see anywhere that it should be plugged into, and everything works on the car as far as I know

Being it looks like part of the original loom,
See if you can get hold of a wiring diagram and see it is listed.
Otherwise its just probably a spare plug for optional accessories.

Red/white goes to relay 85 or 86 , black is going to high beam , grey earth , brown/white illumination.

To add some confusion to this, the car has foglights fitted which work as expected and have a black plug connected into the switch already. This spare blue one is in the same location but has nothing to plug into, unless there was another option my car doesn't have?

Check the front of the BCM. It might plug into a pinout on the forward (or maybe back) face of some BCM's. All the other harnesses plug into the bottom of the BCM.

It could also be for a traction control on manual or for LPG switch on Auto vehicles.

    Wait!
    Auto trans selector harness!
    My VP had the same.
    It's supplementry for column shift.
Mine had regular set up, but it also had a similar harness (spare) for bench seat set up and column shift.

I found a pin out for it on VU.
Its a different plug type but similar, and same 4 wire colours as shown in the photo.

I was not aware VU had a bench seat option though.

Edit... wait. Maybe not. That's a 5 wire plug. Either way, I'm enjoying having a dig through possibilities in the diagrams.

I just went through every pin out and could not find it.
    VU, VT, VX.
The closest I have found is the trans shift and LPG Fuel Mode Switch, but that should be in the trans selector.

    Is it manual or auto?

Don't think its for LPG they don't come with illumination light well mine doesn't and the plus the gauge is about 1 dollar coin in size, I'm thinking maybe a trailer electric brake or a second light switch for reverse / work light, test the voltage with a multimeter on each wire if any reading 0.1 to 5.0v called of been a tacho or oil pressure, its a mystery that's for sure. But it sure looks like another fog light switch plug.

Wow thanks for all that digging, I just logged back in and wasn't expecting such a response!

The LPG which I have just removed definitely did not look factory install, and it's an automatic, so maybe it is an extra plug for column shift or factory lpg
