Hi. I found this thread interesting as I have been wondering if I should try to sell my 2006 VE SS-V, and my feeling was that it might be a hard thing to do, fuel prices being what they are.

I bought the car off my son six months ago as he needed some cash, and was reluctant to try to sell privately due to the time it might take to sell, and the possibility that all he would attract would be hoons and tyre-kickers just wanting to have a drive for the sake of it. I didn't want the car as I was perfectly happy with the '98 Toyota Camry I was driving, but knowing the extent of his financial difficulties I agreed to swap cars and pay him the cash difference we agreed on.

I love my Commodore now but I'm questioning the wisdom of keeping a V8 when people these days seem to want smaller more fuel efficient cars. If this trend continues, it might not be worth selling soon for what I could hope to get for it.

I'm actually not too unhappy with the fuel economy; I don't notice much of a difference in my fuel spend between this and the Camry, possibly because my son had some air intake thing added or modified which he was told would give greater fuel economy. When he was driving it he was using 17 - 19L/100km; last I looked the figures were 14.5L/100km. The factory claimed 14.3 was possible so I think I'm doing okay.

It's actually the sheer size of the car that is tempting me to think about selling it sometime in the future, as I live on a narrow house block and the carport is a bit cramped with no room to expand, so a smaller car would be ideal for me. But if anyone is reading this, what do you think the trend is in regards to buyers wanting V8s?

there are still people out there wanting to buy them, just have to wait for the right one to come along. i think back in the days of cheaper fuel people wanted V8's and were prepared to pay for the cars and the fuel as it wasn't too expensive to run, now people still want them but aren't prepared to pay for the running costs.

took me a few months to sell, but the first person to have a look at it bought it.

if you think you want to sell it throw it up on carsales and a few forums and see how you go. if you aren't in a rush stay firm on your price and don't take the lowball offers that will come in. you should be able to guage interest by the number of enquiries you get.

also i don't know how much of an immediate effect the release of the VF will have on the early end of the VE market, i think it might drop your price a bit but shouldn't be too much at first as someone looking at a second hand SSV for low $20's won't really be looking at a brand new $50k car..

    good luck with your decision

Thanks for that, I hadn't been on the forum for a while after writing this post so I only remembered to look today.

At this point I'm seriously thinking about keeping it long-term; I'll see what happens :)

Keep it. I have an 06 VE SSV and have accepted the fact I will own it forever. Few people want cars like ours second hand, especially with what you can get them for new.
