I may be getting close to the tranny issue ive been on about in previous posts without resolution either here or the G8 forums in the US.
So there's a check ball separator plate repair kit that sorts out the #2 check ball seat, that wears through the separator plate, and causes problems with the 1-2 up shift and downshift.

Here is the repair kit.

Check ball 1-2 and 2-1 shifting issues in forums.
Its a common issue supposedly.

I knew about this check ball seat issue but overlooked it.
Seemed a bit too technical for me.
But i reckon im ready to tackle it shortly after watching a few rebuild vids.

And repair kit installation.

Has anyone used the above repair kit?

I have some similar issues with 3rd and 4th and interested in knowing how complicated it would be to fix. But yeah, it seems not a lot of people do their own transmission repairs other than fluid and filter changes.
You can buy complete replacement valve bodys if you want to spend the cash and do it the quick way.

It sounds like 3 and 4 clutches are worn.

Ive watched these videos a few times right through and others.
https://www.youtube.com/@transmissionbench7842/videos

Id be quite confident doing a full rebuild now,
after watching the above over the last 6 months just for knowledge, just in case it shits itself with 285,000ks on it.
I have the log books, but no sign of any tranny servicing.
Seems daunting but its not.
The pain in the arse is getting the tranny out and back in.

Start at part 1 lesson 1 and watch the lot over a few times.
He explains a few areas that would be causing the 3-4 clutch pack problems and note them down. One is the sun shell i think i can recall.
Its step by step, and those Texans talk real damn slow, so its easy to understand unlike others that are rushing through everything like they're on the meth.
The only way to know for sure is to take it apart.
I helped a mate 40 years ago put in a replacement Borg Warner auto in his XW Falcon sedan. Its pretty much the same on the VE.
