uhhhhh.... i believe he would have been thrown in the back of a paddy wagon. 60 over plus he would have been caught for racing or something like that (i'd guess at that speed).

if im wrong with that, i know for a fact he wont have his licence.

    Would you?

P.S I'm no saint...far from it, but blatantly abusing your authority(yeah, it's a little funny)... in public view... Personally speaking further lowers the respect I have for the people the Police force have in their ranks(not the law).

As for the cop using the sirens to get through the lights to Maccas, can it be verified that there wasn't an incident in the Maccas?

My understanding is when you are locked up you are provided McDonalds meals. Maybe they were told to urgently pick up a meal for a Prisoner as it was past a meal break. There are always 3 sides to a story, your side, their side and what really happened. Never assume.

A bit of a warning on DUI in S.A. I got done for .098 a couple of years back. What I knew was that I would get fined and lose my licence probably for 6 months.

What I didn’t know was this.

Your licence is suspended the moment you are picked up.
You may not receive any notification of what is going to occur for up to a month. I have heard cases much longer. The Police won’t tell you what is going to happen. You will not get any sense from Dept of Motor Reg as to what will happen ( I was told all I would have to pay was $22 and no suspension…). You won’t get any useful information from Department of Transport.

When you do get to court the judge then applies the actual suspension. This is separate from how ever long you have not been allowed to drive prior to your appearance. It took me over a month to get to court. The judge must issue a minimum sentence of 6 months suspension but MAY take into account the amount of time you have already served. I believe this happens in most cases. It did happen in mine.

After you have served your sentence you are then issued a temporary drivers licence for 1 year. The conditions are you must have 0% alcohol in your blood and you can only lose 1 demerit point for the year. I believe that Police testing equipment is only accurate to .001% which is a bit of a worry.

Once you have served your subsequent punishment of this year of a restricted licence you must purchase a new licence. 5 demerit points are then added to whatever you had when you lost your licence 18 months prior and then proceed to be deducted 3 years from each individual prior offence.

My deal was 6 months suspension, 1 year with 1 demerit point meaning any transgression I lose my licence (although I am not sure for how long) and 0% blood alcohol while driving. I now have my new licence plus the 5 demerit point which again leaves me with three to go so any infraction will also leave me without a licence.

On top of this you will find various insurance companies will no longer cover you.

All worth considering “next time” guys.

    High Stop Question

A High Stop Question for the Coppers

Is it legal to have the highstop flash a number of times then stay on while the brakes are applied? If the brakes are not used again within 15 sec it then resets and flashes the next time brakes are applied otherwise the light is constant.

I have built a unit which does this but am beginning to wonder if this mod is legal?

The adds in NSW say that there is no such thing as safe speeding, so why do I get passed by Highway Patrol and Bike cops all the time when I am doing the speed limit on the M7 here in Sydney. (my speedo is 99% Correct) And dont give me the trained to drive at those speed crap. By the way I am a Profesional driver as they call it, and have not had a speeding ticket or other driving offence in twenty years of driving for a living.

Police Highway Patrol vehicles in NSW have their speedometers calibrated regularly to ensure they are 100% accurate, as they have to be a legally accepted "speed measuring device". Your speedometer will never be as accurate as theirs and could be reading fast by up to 8% or slightly more. This would mean that your speedo shows 100kph when you are actually doing closer to 90kph, but they can go past at an indicated 100kph on their speedo's, in the knowledge that they are still complying with the speed limit.

Unless you have had your speedo calibrated, it will probably be nowhere near "99% correct" as you claim.

Wanna answer his question? He asked why do they pass him, not anything to do with his speedo.
While you're there, wanna answer why they'll put their lights/sirens on to get through an intersection, only to see later on down the road they're in the maccas drivethru? ;)

I would say that you are right to say that my speedo is not 99% correct but I do know that I have worked out my speed by RPM and tyre diameter and also final gear ratio as to what speed I am doing at certain revs and use my speedo as a guide to be able to read the speed accuratly by my speedometers reading. This is just as acurate as a calibrated speedo.
Even just using your GPS with cruise control is just as accurate as a calibrated speedo if not better as it measure all conditions without even knowing all the variations.

I would say that a Police speedo would not be accurate at all speeds either ,I am sure that they would not allow for tyre growth at all speeds. If a speedo is calibrated at 40 or 50 kph it is not going to be reading right at 110kph because of tyre growth. Are the cars tyres all kept at the calibrated tyre pressure, are the cars all calibrated in all weather conditions which can change diammeter as well. Low or high air pressure wil play a big part as well.

Anyway it all comes down to knowing that I am doing 100KPH when that is the speed limit if my speedo is accurate or not and I am saying that I have been passed by HWP cars that where speeding. Two wrongs dont make a right no matter who is doing it.

Just 13mm in tyre height at 60KPH can change your KPH reading by about 5k`s. 13mm is easily made up by lowering or raising tyre pressures.

There are soo many problems with that statement. Firstly is speeding exceeding a posted speed limit or driving at a dangerous speed? They are two different things. I can drive down my street at 50kmh and not exceed the speed limit but I think that is not a safe speed as it is a narrow street. I can drive on the South Eastern freeway at 120 – 130 in the right conditions with no other traffic in the right car and still be relatively safe. Not safe, for as soon as you get in a car you have compromised your safety. But it is still not presenting much more of a danger than if I am doing the legal posted limit of 110kmh. So what is Speeding and just how important is it?
The next problem is that zones that used to be 60kmh, and according to that claim safe at that speed, are constantly being reduced to 50kmh. A million cars are registered Australia wide each year and a large percentage of old cars are being retired. Therefore the cars on the road are more "safe" than the ones the year previous. How then is a zone previously posted at 60kmh , for 50 or so year now suddenly no longer “safe” at that speed? It isn’t and there is absolutely no proof that the reduction from 60 to 50 on any road has saved one life.
Basically everything is dumbed down to absolutes to appeal to the lowest common denominator in a cynical attempt to justify the tactics the lawmakers currently employ that they claim are addressing road safety. These are obviously the focus almost exclusively on issuing fines to drivers that exceed posted limits. The mindless masses who probably drive 5000ks a year in basic commuting swallow this. The amount of time they spend on the road does not expose them to the endless stream of constantly changing speed zones that the authorities use as traps in zones that are statically not “death traps”. i.e 50k zones that run off the end of 60 k zones or on streets that one would presume 60ks was “safe”. We can all name a few. They will respond that "if you don’t want to get fined don’t speed". As in don’t exceed the posted limits. These drones seemingly will swallow any law on the basis that it is "law" and must be correct. I am sure they would have a ball in China! Many people I talk to who subscribe to this notion will also tell you they avoid driving in the city (lack confidence) or are reluctant to drive in the country. True, city driving requires one to be ever aware and quick to make decisions. Concentration.
I am not an advocate of dangerous driving. What annoys me is the cynicism of the authorities. We have safer cars, arguably safer roads and yet road tolls continue to rise. Their answer is to employ more speed cameras. One definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing and expect a different result.
The answer to your question as to why you get passed is simply because they can. From time to time, rarely they will be called to account but don’t sit around in anticipation.

Ha ha, I would totally agree. Their radar devices are not accurate. There are numerous cases of people being clocked at ridiculous or impossible speeds. You can find them all over the net. What is harder to find is any reference to what kind of calibration the radar devices are subject to. The Queensland Police claim -

The Gatso speed radar has been tested extensively in Europe against standards EN 50082-1 covering domestic, commercial and light industrial environments and EN 50082-2 covering industrial environments in addition to the manufacturer’s own tests.
The Australian equivalents of these standards are AS/NZS 4252.1 AND AS/NZS 4252.2.

AS/NZS 4252.1 is Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) - Generic immunity standard – Part 1: Residential, commercial and light industry. What this means in relation to measuring speed accurately and to what degree is not explained. Perhaps someone knows what the standard actually measures?

The QLD Police go in to say -

The Gatso Unit has been thoroughly tested in Australia on the road and under controlled conditions on test tracks. The Gatso radar has passed all tests and is certified as being in compliance with international standards.

Of course we have no idea what these international standards are nor what the tests entail and to what degree of accuracy they discriminate.
