    Shounak,

Sounds like you need to invest in decent cruise control.

I always have mine on, and I am sure it has saved me a fine a few times!

    Cant go wrong ;)

As you may already know I'm only in GD's and never stepped foot into a HWP car. The other day, my poor car died (fixed now though thanks to this site  ). My crew came 30 minutes to pick me up from home but couldn't take me back at the end of my shift, lucky for me, the HWP blokes started 30 minutes prior to my shift ending and offered me a ride. Funny thing is, I left at 5:30am and didn't get home til 6:45am because of all the cars they were pulling up. I was amazed by how many people were speeding on the Easter Weekend of all times (most going 25 - 30km over). After we finished pulling one car up, we'd just get going and have to turn around and chase another car down for speeding. I now know why HWP patrol are such Nazi's because of how many people insist on doing the wrong thing. Just thought I'd share that with everyone.

And Helly, my experience has urged me to consider going over to the 'darkside'... Not a good thing maybe! ***Evil Laugh***

is it people speeding around holiday times. i doubt it. I would think more attention citculates around holiday periods, they never mention how many people die on normal days. lets face it in the old days where speeding and drink driving wasn't a issue, hardly any one was dying, but because we concentrate what happens these days it seems people are dying. Like yesterday the wrx and the hq how unfortunate is that, especially for the people in the hq aand the families, i'd hate to tell their family there loved ones just dies because of a wrx that though he was invincible.
I don't condone speeding, but lets face it you could die doing 10k's an hour. Maybe instead of trying to limit speed in new cars to 120kmph they might as well make them automatic ,like it was tested all vehicles to have computerised modules that would automatically brake when a certain distance from another vehicle.

More people die on average on Australian Roads during holiday periods because there are more people on the roads during these times and they tend to drive further than normal, that's really all there is to it, its just a probability thing. Most of the time its fatigue related or stupid related...

However I had the opposite experience to Pacey over these holidays, as I was struggling to open my ticket book. Almost every car was doing well under the speed limit over the plains both day and night. I issued 2 (over 145 in 110) speeding tickets over 5 shifts, and I was very happy about it, restored a little faith in people being sensible.

Mind you, when I worked in Sydney, I had the same experience as Pacey did, every damn night of the week!

Pacey I dont wanna hear that kinda talk soldier!!!

GD's is the cream of the crop. Don't let anyone ever tell you otherwise!

They call Highway Patrol is a Specialist Unit
I like to think of Highway Patrol as a Minimalist Unit

See I only do traffic. You do what ever gets thrown in your face, and to me that makes you guys complete cops.

Hey I can still remember GD's, and I still do all that stuff out here, cos we have to with the small number of cops we have, but mate, in my books GD's can hold their heads higer than any other unit in the cops. I hate it when Gd's get spoken down to by D's or HWY. I normally put them back in their place when I do cos I'm not shy in speaking bluntly...

Just remember, who's always there first? GD's...

Unless of course you and I leave at the same time, then I'll be there first :yeah:

Yeah true, and I reckon it's also because they tend to be driving on unfamiliar roads in unfamiliar areas...

    Testy?

I notice a little testiness appearing on this thread.

To change the subject, I have twice been pulled up for RBT in the last month, after not being pulled up for a couple of years.

The officers involved were polite and professional. Well done lads.

Ok, to change a subject as things are getting hot...

How many of the cops on this forum have done some sort of advanced driving course or (at least) high speed pursuit course, not sure of the right terminology?

Is it compulsory? Do you have a pass/fail system?

I'd say, judging by Julie's (moderator) comments, she's deleted both yours and Shounak's posts...

We don't have speed limits outside of town and when your doing 180km's past a cop they just wave. (not overtaking them though they dont like that)
As far as tolerances go our cops are pretty leanient 10km's and below they just wave their fingers at you, over that then they get p*ssed at you and expect a fine. If and when i get caught speeding (and u do eventually) i take it on the chin regardless of the conditions and situation because i know they are just getting one back on me for the black marks i left outside their station the other week. Lets face it it more people argue with the cops than they do taking it on the chin and i've gotten away with heaps from this approach and some have reduced my speeds on fines so i didn't lose my licence. I think people should be more apprieciative of the cops otherwise the roads would be like they are in the third world countries sure there are nasty ones but hey imagine all the nasty ar$e people he's had to deal with during the day.
N.T the home of no speed limit.

The roads are not the best most of the time but some of the upgraded sections rock and the best thing is nobody cares as long as your not overtly being a tosser and you don't race around when there are other cars present. Otherwise you can still be fined (allthough i don't know how much)
I have not taken the commodore out there yet but i regularly sit on 200kph in my hyundai (its like a very very very scarey billycart ride).

BMW Advanced Drivers Course (Don't know what its called now or even if thaey still do them, but it was fun anyhow), NSW Police Silver Certification Course (pursuit and urgent duty driving), and NSW Police Highway Patrol High Speed Pursuit Driving Course, they all incorporate, hazard assessment, evasive braking, skid pan, high speed driving, road craft and racing lines, vehicle stability and dynamic control, blah blah blah...

None of which are compulsory for cops. But its very rare you'll find a NSW police officer who has not done the silver certification. None of us HAVE TO engage in urgent duty or pursuits, but again most of us do. Why else would you join the cops... :yeah:
