    snapped key

i finished work last night and went to start my car and found that my key would not go in the inition barrel. looked at it almost a 1/4 is missing. i put this broken key on my **** no bat remote, but now i only have one working key. just wondering if you had any idea how much holden charge for a full cut/program of a key. rang a few locksmiths not many able to do it others through the roof.

    cheers

about $115 to 125 is the norm, you will still need to get the barrel replaced or at least dismantled to remve the broken bit,
the lock barrel is about $70, plus labour etc, then you may also need a new housing, another $150, it all depends if it can be dismantled easily

    Hey Bob.
I installed speakers / amp in my VY SS over the weekend, and ever since, whenever I turn the key on, I get warning beeps and a message: "SRS airbag fault".

The only electrical stuff I touched was:
-Disconnected / removed the front passenger seat (I spose those two wires are for the side airbags?)
    -Disconnected the battery
-Disconnected the power mirror switch to take the drivers door trim off and
    -Disconnected the factory speakers.

Would this just be a matter of resetting the computer or something? If so, can I do it myself or do i need to take it to a dealer? Thanx in advance mate...

If you did those two in that order there is your problem.

VZ CV8 Cluster into VYII Executive.

    Hi Dr Bob,

I have a VZ CV8 Cluster, which I would like to install into a VYII Manual V6.

It is brand new and has not yet been programmed.

Is this swap possible, and if so, are there any tricks?

    Thanks & regards.

i think you may have turned the ignition on while the seat wa unplugged, this will log a DTC in the SDM causing the warning, you need to take it to a dealer to clear the history code.

The VZ has a different cluster, the software in it has completely different characteristics & will not work in a VY
best to sell it & get the correct one for your model.

    Thanx Bob.

You're right, I did turn the ignition on while the seat was unplugged.
I'll give my dealer a call tomorrow...

...hope they don't have the hide to charge me for it though!! :bang:

    Hello Rob

I have noticed a few changes recently with my VZ. When started it takes 3-4seconds for the idle to drop down to 750rpm and the fuel consumption has jumped about 1.5 liters per 100 kms. I have had a quick check for vacuum leaks and loose plugs all over the engine, didnt find any. It has not given an alarm recently. Would this be the O2 sensors starting to go off? BTW it is a 5.7 with about 27000kms on it.
    Cheers

Bob.. my wife's car is 1990 skyline only with 100,000klms... we really like the looks and driving our VX.... but the Skyline is so much better on fuel economy.... we dont really need the power of the V6... i have often thought about puting the Skyline six into a Commodore... would i be able to use the VX ECU or would it be much easier to put the Skyline ECU in with the engine?... the VX gets around 350 klms as the fuel empty light comes on using aircon and doing 10 klm drive each time... the Skyline does the same but fuel economy is 420 klms on 55 liters on each fill up.... i'm not knocking commodores but i really like the straight 3 liter six.... i think Holden should have kept it as an engine choice option.....

you may have just gotten some bad fuel, the o2 sensors should be ok but get it to a dealer & get it checked out.

lol why re invent the wheel so to speak, just buy a VL?
if you really want to put it in a later model, use the ecu that comes with it theres heaps of technical issues to swap over to a delco.
remember though later cars are much heavier than a VL & with the lack of torque from the 3.0 it will be a slug off the mark & probably get bad economy because you will have to pedal it so hard to get anywhere.

What are you doing to your VX??? I have a 5.7 VYII that runs around 400-450km (towing 90% of the time). My VTII (V6) ran around 500-600 km about town and near on 1000km on a run. I have the air con running 24/7. It never switches off.

The 3.0 litre was a great engine for it's time however we are 20 years on now - get with the times bloke!

ok doc bob i have one for you
i have a vh blue 202, it is auto, with a vk head on it, i am putting a manual in it next week. my question is on the side of the head there is a sensor similar in appearance to a temp sender it is called a cold feed switch what is it, what does it do, do i need it, i called the local holden mechanic and he had never heard off it, total loss off confidence in the holden service centre.
