Haven't had a chance just yet, but I'll try and get some detail pics tomorrow.

    Hard lid hinges:
There are differences between Holden and HSV hard lid hinges.
HSV lid hinge has an added safety hook on the R/H side of the upper hinge. The lower hinge is 2 pieces, the R/H piece is to capture the upper safety hook when the lid is closed.
    _DEW4889.JPG _DEW4906.JPG _DEW4925.JPG _DEW4926.JPG

If you already have the Holden lower hinges fitted, the HSV upper hinges should attach to them without problem.
They should be in the same location and use the same hinge pin, the only difference is the HSV lower hinge uses different hole spacing's.
The upper hinges use the same bolt locations for Holden and HSV hard lids.

    Hard lid catch and latch:
This is the hard lid catch/popper assy. When you remotely release the lid, it pops the catch clear of the latch.
There are 4 ways to open the lid. Via the key fob, via a push button in the glove box, a manual release cable in the cabin, and a manual release cable in the tub itself.
    _DEW4900.JPG _DEW4916.JPG _DEW4917.JPG _DEW4932.JPG

I did attempt to remove the tailgate plastic liner to get more pics of the latch and actuator, but couldn't remove the latch lever without the risk of damage due to excessive force required. Also, there is a stainless steel 'skid plate' to cover the latch, and it's attached with pop rivets, didn't have any replacement rivets that size.
    _DEW4875.JPG _DEW4891.JPG

Just a pic of a standard Holden tailgate plastic liner and latch lever.

So sorry for the delayed reply..... I did not receive any e-mail notifications that anyone posted after my last post, and this COVID-19 crap really hit us hard here. I hope you guys there aren't affected as much as we have been.

I will call Salvage Auto Sales in the morning (my evening). I believe it is now around midnight your time.

The pics are perfect..! Thank you! I haven't had time to look at them in detail yet, will do so later today and post back.

I was able to locate an HSV wiring harness for the solenoid (actuator) in the tailgate, but they were not able to answer my question about the solenoid itself. Is it the exact same part as the one used in the Commodore sedan's boot? If it is, I can get it here as a Pontiac G8 trunk solenoid. If it is different, I am out of luck and will have to find one there. The issue with this is that Holden dealerships cannot look up HSV part numbers (I called one), and HSV will not help me without a VIN....aaarrrggghhhh!! Can you say, "Up a creek without a paddle?"

I would make the assumption HSV would not design and manufacture an actuator in this case. They would be highly likely to repurpose existing Holden/GM parts.

I called Salvage Auto Sales to inquire about the parts I need. He basically said one thing, "All our lids come with all the parts needed to install." I said I already have the lid and need only the small hardware. He would not help... So I believe this is his ad >>
    https://salvageautosales.com.au/product/damaged-vf-hsv-maloo-hardlid-with-fitting-kit-no-struts/

He's asking $550. Honestly, I've been searching in vain for about one year now and getting very frustrated. So for me, it's worth $550 just for the fitting kit (hinges, latch, etc), IF ANYONE WANTS A FREE "SLIGHTLY DAMAGED" HARDLID.... If anyone is close to this guy's shop, I'd be willing to pay you if you can pick up the parts and ship them to me in the U.S., and you keep the hardlid....

Imoengnr's pics above with his description of the function were perfect for me to see and understand exactly what I need. I can list these parts here as needed.

My local Holden dealer doesn't deal in HSV's, but can access all of HSV's parts data.
They were able to order in a replacement Vector Vent, ordered in the morning, arrived that afternoon.

I will PM you a HSV VIN.

Totally agree. This is why I tend to believe the actuator for the Maloo is the same as the one for the sedan boot. I just need confirmation before I order one listed for the G8, only to find out it is not the same...

Based on the above pics, I will be needing all four hinge brackets that bolt to the tub because it looks like the Holden hinges are not the same as the Maloo's. I have the Holden lid and mine looks identical to the pics. I also will need the latch that bolts to the lid underside, and the actuator once someone can tell me if the sedan's boot actuator is/is not the same.

Imoengnr, do you have an suggestions on who I should contact first to obtain these parts, given the info you were so kind to give me?

Have you guys seen the youtube video on "Low Life" ute? Hope this link works for you>>

He's made the Maloo lid work with a standard tailgate, so there must be a way to do this.....

Hey Willie, you could call Sunbury Holden on +61397403000 and ask for Mark in Spare Parts.
For HSV stuff, google Kevin Dennis Holden in Sunshine.

The blue ute in your video has had the Maloo hard lid modified to lock using the standard Holden latches in each rear corner of the ute.
You can see chrome attachments on the hard lid at both rear corners.
He must have adapted 2 lock actuators to open and lock the hard lid.

Here's the contact form for HSV...

    https://www.hsv.com.au/own/contact/

You could even send a message to them on Facebook. I'm told they are usually pretty friendly and helpful...

    https://www.facebook.com/HoldenSpecialVehicles/

They don't have a publicly-displayed phone contact number but you can phone this dealer near the HSV works who also holds a HSV franchise-
    International dialling codes included:

    61 3 8574 0011

Ask for the HSV department when the recorder "press one to..." crap ends.

    Update:
I e-mailed HSV. They replied that they cannot (or will not) ship to the U.S...

I then called Mark at Sunbury Holden. Very nice guy, but could not help with HSV parts. He did say that the solenoid on the Maloo is different from the sedan, so that helps. He even said to call Kevin Dennis.

I called Kevin Dennis and chatted with Sam. He can get the hinge, pin, and the body anchor hook (bracket). He gave me costs too. I also asked about the solenoid and he said it is one of two, that I would have to get the part number off of mine... As for the catch bolted to the hardlid, he said that it might come with the solenoid, but did not really look it up separately.

I gotta say this>> Before Sam looked up anything, he asked if I bought the lid off e-Bay. In my mind, I did not want to go through the entire story because it is soooo long, and I was thinking if I said, "Yes", that he would say, "Sorry mate, can't help you." So I fibbed a little. I said my hardlid was tweaked when the ute was hit and that the hinges are messed up as well as the solenoid latch & catch. He did not ask for a VIN..... I did offer to e-mail pics of the parts I need and he asked if I could include my phone number. I'm hesitating sending the e-mail because of my international number..

The other issue I never brought up was whether he could ship to me, but not gonna worry about this yet. Just waiting for an e-mail saying he can get the parts. We'll go from there.

I did e-mail Sam yesterday but no reply yet. Guess I'll have to wait until next week...

I know I have not explained the history of how I got a ute into the States but would be happy to if anyone is interested..... They are definitely a unicorn here and I get tons of attention when I'm driving it....

Mate, it almost goes without saying, you need to tell this story.

    Do a seperate thread though.

Guys, I have an update. I have very good news, but also bad news. Sam at Kevin Dennis Holden looked up the parts. They are available. The bad news is that cannot ship internationally. This news is so far the closest to getting the parts I need and haven't given up yet >> I posed a hypothetical question to Sam. If I pay for the parts over the phone, can I have someone local pick them up for me and have them take care of shipping to me? He said yes. So this is where I am now.

If anyone can help me with this, I would owe a huge debt of gratitude AND of course, I will be happy to accommodate you for your time and trouble to do this. AND I would be more than happy to do the same thing for you for anything you might need from here, car parts or otherwise. Can anyone help? Thanks!

    You'll need to be patient...
We are still in lockdown here in Victoria, until(maybe) the 11th of May.
No one wants to be caught out shopping out of their suburb, at the risk of a $1632 fine...

I've learned to be patient, extremely patient. Trying to locate / obtain parts has been very challenging to say the least. I'm sorry you are all experiencing what the rest of the world is experiencing. We are no exception. I don't know how badly you have been impacted, but here, things are bad; 26 million have lost their jobs and will continue to grow. To put that in perspective, it exceeds the number of lost jobs during the Great Depression of the 1930's, and these job losses have all been in the last three months, not years as it was 90 years ago. We are also under what's called "stay at home" orders. Schools are all shut down. People are going stir crazy, my daughter included. She's seeing a counselor (via video chat) for anxiety / depression. She lives just south of Seattle, WA (Washington, not Western Australia, lol), the original epi-center of the outbreak in the states. She believes she's already had it.

Thanks for the info! Everyone stay healthy!

    Willie
