Hi guys,

Sister's Astra A/C doesn't work.
Thought if test to see if it was the common compressor issue. Put a circuit tester over the compressor switch, no voltage no amperage. No change in RPM when A/C button is on, compressor isn't engaging either.
Light goes on the LED when the button is pressed though, where else could the fault be?

Thanks

Hey mate, first point of call is gas. If there is no/low gas on the system, then the oressure switch will not allow the compressor to switch on.

But apparently these cars use the BCM to control revs as soon as you press the button, so shouldn't the revs change regardless?

News to me, the idle up signal has always been sent from the compressor to my knowledge otherwise it would burn excess fuel in the times that the ac is on but no compressor.

Simple test would be to get the pressure checked

True,
I remember I had this issue with my VP back in the day, low pressure switch kept kicking it on and off constantly and it was hell annoying.
But this car isn't even trying.

on the front of the compressor under the coil is a thermal fuse it blows and you have no aircon very common on TS astras, it is a simple fix to do but a bugger to get at, make sure you have gas as well, have two astras (now only one) at home and this was the problem, one day it just stopped working, you can test the coil to see if it is, yes the comp controls the idle via the bcm but there is a vac hose on the throttlebody that has input aswell -senses drop in revs when a/c engaged etc etc and compensates etc etc, on the opel aus forum there is a fix for it, was sent to me in pic form and a brief outline on what to do

Most likely is the compressor clutch coil, if you can find a good aircon guy he can replace it, if not, it'll be replace the compressor.

Cowboy will replace compressor, real repair is to change clutch coil, have had 2 in family so far, around $200 mark, compressor many times that!!

As noted above, the common issue with these is the clutch coil.
