Agreed, I'd have cut a hole so the filler cap is above the panel. On the V6 models that is where the coolant reservoir is with a convenient hole to stick something up.

What would be the maximum distance you could have it from the rack. Would mounted in the rear of a Ute be fine?
Have a VP ute build underway now. Plan is to mount the astra pump in the old tank location in the tray.

Will watch this thread to see if you get it done before we do.

Can't be bothered watching it all, but this is an Astra pump conversion on a steering box

This youtuber has also done an Astra power steer pump conversion.

Whilst I'm not going through all his videos to find the exact one, if people were interested, I'm sure a quick email to him might get results needed...

He did the conversion on a VN Commodore, fitted with a LS1

My Ute has turned into a bit of a build now also, just trying to fit a turbo to the 6L. Now it’s stripped for a full build

easy...
plus the trick with these is to put a delay relay in one of the power feeds
(get them from JAYCAR, auto sparkie or Fleabuy)
or you can buy a wiring kit (few sites on the web and sellers on Fleabuy have them
.. they include a wiring harness with delay relay)

I have had a bit of a search but no real luck

I need to either convert my Ute to Astra power steering or a manual rack for clearance issues. Has anyone done either to their Ute and could give me some feedback on what’s required and how it’s driven.
Only running 195 front runners on 17” rims

Thanks
I don't know if you follow the Skid Factory on Youtube but they are building a VR drag car (called Kevin the Savage) and they modified the front area of the passenger side wheel well so it's similar as the drivers side where the battery normally sits which would be ideal for something like this. Alternately, moving the battery to the tray frees up a lot of room and it doesn't look like the Ute had ABS so that leaves the old battery space for a PS pump.
