Has any body been to Fowles Melbourne car auctions lately.
If so what prices are the VY/VZ cars and wagons going for?
I was thinking it might be a good time to buy a commodore, with the slump in value of large cars. I probably prefer the the VY as I think the good old ecotech is more reliable than the new alloytec. What do you think?
I am only interested in ex fleet/govt cars, no repos or other doubtful stuff.

Well, it all depends on how many people are there, how interested they are, and how much they are willing to pay as to what the final price of an auction vehicle is. But the above mentioned prices are about the average going price.

Thanks for the replies.
In answer to why am I so keen to purchase from the auctions. Well I keep reading of the over supply of used cars, due to the high sales of new cars.
Also with the slump in sales of the 6 cyl cars, I thought there might be some bargains to be had..

If you know what to look for and what your limits are, and don't just go for the first one that comes up, you will get a bargain out of the auction. It's just more of a matter of 'the right time, at the right place'

Good luck if you decide to buy this way though!

VY Exec S2
Mine went for 17 at auction (VY exec S2 with a few options), that was back in Sept 2005. I ended up getting the car from the holden dealer my mum works at (we knew what they paid so we paid about $1000 morem but that gave us a warranty so cant complain)

As for right now, i dont know because i havent been, but im guessing less than 15K
